damn! what a loss. always enjoyed his fights. a defensive fighter that had some power and was willing to trade when he wanted to. when you have had a stadium full of chavez fans QUIET at the end of that fight, we knew who REALLY won. rest in peace pernell. the ten count bell now rings in your honor.
Very sad for us. I send prayers and positive vibes to his loved ones. This sport owes him a debt of honor, to pay respect to this master of his craft. Mr. Whittaker may have been a defensive wizard, but he was also a gladiator who didn't believe in giving up. Young fighters need to study his film extensively if they want to truly understand greatness. And keep in mind, Pea never ducked anyone. Even Larry Merchant admired his policy of anyone, anytime, anywhere. Valhalla, a great warrior and entertainer enters your hall. Please give him a nice Everlast robe to relax in, and the heartfelt gratitude from the fans all over this planet. Rest in Peace.
Whitaker is in the run for the best southpaw fighter ever. A really big loss for the boxing community.
One of the best boxer's ever. Even more unhittable than Mayweather. Robbed against Jose Luis Ramirez, De La Hoya, and especially Chavez. The only fight I felt he lost was against Trinidad, and he was out of his prime then. Rest in Power Legend!
RIP to one of, if not, the greatest defensive fighter in history. Boy could he crack to. Truly a pleasure to watch and attempt to learn off. Condolences to his family and friends.
