This is really tragic news .A great boxer , one of the 80s / 90s guys that made the lower weight s entertaining .I always wanted to see him against Camacho and Mel Taylor , would have made a good 4 some with Chavez in there mixed in . Sad new s indeed Rip Pernell
One of my all time favorites, Whitaker made pure artistry out of boxing. Too soon, too young, wish he could have had more time to pass his knowledge and perspective along.
When he was in his 89/90 pomp you could arguably count the total amount of rounds he lost on one hand. And it was not that the likes of Ramirez, Nelson and Pendleton were slouches...
Apparently, he got hit by a car around 10 pm last night and died pretty much instantly. https://www.upi.com/Sports_News/201...eet-Pea-Whitaker-dies-in-crash/7821563202595/
What a shock. Sad. He still had a lot to give to the sport. Boxing does not have many true giants left. He was one of the greatest. We can't afford to lose him.
he had incredible balance, total body. and he was actually one tough hombre, fighting grown men when he was just a boy (early norfolk days). r.i.p. champ
