If we are going to talk about electing a president, then I think a president should have a few tooth mark scars on his knuckles. If he has never had to defend himself in a fight, why would I feel safe with him defending this country?
I don't agree with Trump's politics and I think little of him a person as most New Yorkers do but I do agree he is a genuine boxing fan and made plenty of contributions to the sport in the 80s-90s. Atlantic City broke the Vegas monopoly which ultimately meant fighters got better treatment as their team (management) were being wooed by venues. Trump was actually interviewed on HBO's Legendary Nights Tale of Tyson vs Douglas. He sat ringside in Tokyo with Don King. As Janitor pointed out the Tyson camp did everything to get Douglas to rematch Tyson. Trump was even awarded $2 million in damages in the lawsuit since Tyson Douglas 2 would have taken place in Atlantic City in a Trump Casino.
I have heard Trump talk on boxing. He's a fan. Mike Tyson had nice things to say about Trump when Trump had the Tyson vs Spinks fight in his hotel.
I think he is a part time fan & agree with those who point out, he saw it as a business move. The dude Placed personal debt to his hotel biz' adding to the billion $ Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City in 1990 then One year later, in 1991, file Chapter 11 bankruptcy ,(in one year) .. then the other hotels followed. It seems if he was a genuine fan, we would have seen him at ringside for fights outside his hotels. Not saying he hasn't, rather I can only recall him sitting at fights that occurred at his hotel/casinos. Heck I've seen Arnold the governator to Mit Romney (pac-jmm) fight. But not the Donald.
indeed. He was behind many great fights of the 80s and 90s. I sat across from him at Cooper-Moorer. in spite of sitting with a model, he was totally into the fight. A genuine boxing fan.
