    Fifteen rounds.Is there a possibility that Jimmy could win a round?
    As heavyweight credentials Tunney has;
    2 wins over the mighty Dempsey
    A win over Tommy Gibbons179lbs
    A win over Georges Carpentier173lbs
    A win over Tom Heeney
    Tunney retired at 31 whilst prime and undefeated.In 68 fights Tunney fought 4 times against men of 190lbs or over.

    Ellis has;
    A Win over Floyd Patterson
    A win over Leotis Martin
    A win over Oscar Bonavena
    A win over Jerry Quarry
    A win over George Chuvalo
    Ellis has 11 losses , five of then when over 33, 3 of them to Frazier and Ali .
    Ellis conceded 10lbs or more 10 times.
    Ellis fought until he was 35 years old.

    Tough to say, Tunney isn't as proven at HW as Ellis but Ellis wouldn't give him anything he didn't see before.

    Gene would likely beat him clearly, but not easily.

    Tunney by decision but Jimmy was no bum , he'd win a few rounds . Would be something like 9 round to 6.

    No tbh .I believe that Ellis would make it through tu the end .I don't even see a kd happening in the fight .

    This is a hard fight to handicap. Tunney has to be the favorite. But, on his best day Ellis has a legitimate chance of an upset.

    I agree with this. i would also add that I would perceive some great exchanges of fast, sharp combinations by both participants. I think this would be a fast-paced 15 rounder with Gene nicking it at the end of 15.

    It's a tough fight because not only os Ellis a very under rated fight but he has a much deeper heavyweight resume the Tunney does. Jimmy was fast, he could box, he had a good right hand and a ton of heart .. I have no idea who wins this one because while I know Tunney was an excellent fighter his heavyweight resume is very thin.

    I would favor Tunney, but it would not be a confident pick.

    I get the feeling that Tunney rates higher head to head, than his resume indicates, and for obvious reasons.

    Jimmy Ellis started as middleweight & lost 4-5 fights at that weight - he was actually a more successful heavyweight but perhaps because of his middleweight experience - he was a good boxer with a sneaky right hand - many thought Floyd was robbed- Quarry claimed he had a bad back but Jimmy put Oscar on his butt with a pinpoint punch in winning decision. Tunney had a pretty thin Heavyweight resume but did beat Jack Dempsey 2x and his resume before that was very deep - losing only to the Great Great Harry Greb before avenging the loss a few times (many felt Greb was robbed in 1 of those fights)

    With all that being said it would be a competitive bout IMO with Tunney the quicker hands & feet taking close but clear decision
