So now the thread is which fighter beat another fighter that was better than anyone Bruno beat? What’s going on here?
He beat McCall, who had come off wins against Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes, for the WBC belt. He also stomped on Gerrie Coetzee, James Tillis, Jesse Ferguson, Carl Williams and Pierre Coetzer. All guys who fought for the title at least once.
Not one of those was prime unless you count McCall ... who really didn’t have a prime but rather 15 minutes of fame. Fluke champ. A couple of those were also-rans who were well, well past their sell-by dates. Jesse Ferguson LOL, just a club fighter so he wasn’t even an also-ran. Same for Coetzee. Promoters have always been able to sell Brits on American ‘names’ who are no longer relevant as if the wins mean something.
Bruno wasn't prime when he fought most of them either. And I'm not saying Bruno is an all time great but he beat a good group of fighters similar to that of George Foreman during his come back. So It's not like Bruno didn't fight anyone. Frank only lost to the very best, and after giving them a run for their money. Dude had power and underrated skills. Give him Ray Mercer's chin and he might be an ATG. He beat McCall when it mattered.
How old were all those guys when McCall beat them? Younger than Bruno? I know Lewis was young in `94, but green as hell.
