Miguel Cotto fought everyone in their prime and he was clean the entire time. He deserves more!

    1. You might get banned for this. Regardless of how you meant it, this is the type of post people get banned for

    2. Under deliver compared to what?
Fanboy expectations? Sure but then again there are lots of fighters from all over the world who have rabid fans that will hype them to unrealistic levels.
Kovalev and GGG still had very good careers. GGG underdelivered only in that he turned out to be a more cautious boxer puncher at the elite level not a pressure fighter. (And I don't even particularly like GGG)

And kovalev cleaned up his Alvarez mess in dominant fashion, Andre ward is an ATG no shame there.

First most people think Kovalev beat Ward in the first fight.

Also, GGG not being a pressure fighter at the elite level has a lot to do with him not getting the top guys in to the ring until he was in mid 30s and later. I don't know any top level pressure fighters who are 35 and over. The body cannot maintain that level of workrate when you get that old.

    1. Yes
    2. That's part of it, but another part is that he simply doesn't want to rush the elite guys or anyone who pushes back, even against Willie Monroe he started letting up in his vicious attack after Willie started holding his ground.
    Same with lemieux and Jacobs.
With canelo, when he backed up in the first fight, GGG came after him. When he stood his ground GGG started moving
The guy just is more of a boxer by temperament than his fanboys and the HBO hype crew wanted to admit. Doesn't mean he's any less, just different

I was an admirer of Cotto's skills, especially that body shot. I do wonder what would've happen if those power shots to the nuts hadn't been administered? The one time I give props to Judah who fought through it.

I think Both May and Pac were juicing during their careers ( Pac until after the last Marqroid fight and Mayweather at 147 when he started waiting until the last minute to announce his fight so he could be sure he had cycled off before testing began)

Honestly I respect Cotto but am also very put off by his Diva antics.

I had Cotto-Mosley a draw, for the record.

People forget that Shane was in control of that fight down the stretch.

The Mosley of 6-7 years earlier would have eaten Cotto alive.

The Mosley that fought DLH would of KO'ed Cotto.

There's a lot of flaws in the OP's statement about Cotto.

I will say I thought he was a very good fighter at 140 lbs, one of the best body punchers in the entire sport. He had a mixed level of success once he started moving up in weight and I always wondered how much did that first Margarito fight take out of his career.

He still had an impressive career- 1st ballot HOF'er no doubt- but I never had him ranked in my top 10 P4P at any point of his career. He fell short in almost all of his biggest fights sans the Martniez fight who was clearly fighting on one leg and a shell of his former self when he met up with MIguel for a payday. Prime Maravilla would've had very little problems dispatching Cotto at any weight. In fact at their respective peaks I rate Sergio much higher than Miguel. Martinez was in my top 3 P4P for several years. I still remember that demolition job he gave to Paul Williams.
