Leonard won. Who landed the most punches is inconsequential. Fights are not won or lost due to how many punches are landed in the pro ranks.

winning matches is not based on sympathy but which boxer outscored the other, the basis of a points win

No doubt. This film only cements what I've known all along; Hagler on points

I'm sure we can all agree that Leonard IS one of the greats who fell just a bit short of fistic supremacy, and loses only to the best (Hagler & Terry Norris)

See the FOTW thread presented by our very own Kool Kev, watch the fight fresh and score it yourself.. This fight is one of the biggest, closest, fights in History, a coin flip decision if you will … Either guy getting the nod is perfectly fine and can not be argued in no way to be a robbery ... I will say the only thing that completely stunk up this fight for me was the 118-110 scorecard for SRL... and I would say the same thing if a card was turned in like that favoring Haglar.. the fight was just to close

Good call Rummy. I had Hagler even farther ahead. I believe that the landed punches analysis is the best method because there was no bias involved so I'm going with that. I imagine if Leonard fans watched the entire analysis, it would be painful to watch

because they can no longer say "Leonard beat Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Hagler"

but must be edited to "Leonard beat Benitez, Duran, Hearns but lost to Hagler"

So we’re just counting punches now like in amateur?

Not what happens round by round?

EDIT: My post is not in reference to @Rumsfeld ’s video, which is excellent as always, but rather the other video and tenor of the discussion.

I thought Leonard edged it. As Rummy noted, it’s not a robbery although one scoreboard was obviously way out of line.

And Rummy, I appreciate you working your love for boxing relating to your relationship to your father in there. My pop is 77 now and just last weekend I was able to be at my parents’ house and we were able to watch the fights on TV together. I’ll always cherish our boxing connection and the time we’ve spent together at live shows, on TV and PPVs and even in the old closed circuit days.

I don't need a bunch of online conspiracy theorists telling me what I'm seeing. I score the fight 6-5-1 Leonard. The judges thought he won too, as did a majority of people watching. The outcry of robbery is a latter-day creation for people who should be spending their time analyzing more useful things like the Zapruder film or the moon landings sound stage. We've done this to death, and the only thing anyone ever gets out of it is what a complete whack job Rooster is.

People don’t know how to score a pro fight. AGAIN WHO LANDS THE MOST PUNCHES IS NOT THE DECIDING FACTOR. Amateur YES. PROFESSIONAL NO.

So were taking a 48 minute fight and breaking it down to 15 minutes and Hagler's best moments? Ok. But Let's not hold Hagler and his team accountable for one of the dumbest fight plans in history, letting the fight go long enough and by not dominating Leonard to the point of their could be no doubt in the judges minds he actually won the fight. Leonard won the fight. He won it on the the judges score cards , and in the hearts of the thousands of fans who were their and millons around the world. No agenda can change that fact.

seems as if a lot of SRL fans are upset and had their hopes dashed after all these years, refusing to believe the evidence of their eyes, even going so far as to say "it's not about who scored the most punches"

but rather "Hagler lost due to a dumb fight plan"

and "due to the fact that he did not dominate leonard, we should give Leonard a free pass and say he won it!"

    what's it based on?

unless one knocks the other out, then the judges, if theyre fair unbiased judges, tally up the scorecards

further, Leonard never hurt or stunned Hagler while Hagler had Leonard visibly stunned more than once so it seems that it is only fair to conclude that Marvin took the fight as he said all along

personally, I gave Ray four rounds

Now had it been Terry Norris vs Hagler, we'd be looking at a REAL fight!

As I said in a recent post Leonard won.
Marvin gave away the beginning of the fight by fighting conventional. He didnt let his hands go..he didnt even try an cut the ring off. He let Leonard get in his head so bad it's like he forgot what to really do in there.
I've always looked at it more from the angle Marvin lost than Leonard won because the fight was there for Marvin to win but Leonard clearly syched him out of his usual self..Where was Marvin's corner?? This is coming from a monster Hagler fan BTW
