Manny actually seemed a little battered after the fight, low energy, seemed to be talking a little funny too, and made numerous comments about Thurman's heavy punches. I think the power was there.
So like everyone except a guy like Pacquiao(which was mainly due to the volume style ontop of being a freakish puncher). Porter and Garcia have iron chins too, which I think people overlook.
thurman hasnt been the same fighter since the collazo fight, maybe all the sex with his recently met wife is making his knees weak.
He never has been a huge hitter, as his early power came mostly from timing and accuracy rather than thudding force. But as he has stepped up, his opponents are much better defensively and Keith himself has been more economical with his output. He'd have hurt other guys last night, though, based on what he was landing. I thought Thurman fought really well and has nothing to hang his head about.
This. And this is true of a lot of hyped punchers. Remember how much of a beast Berto was going to be? Look at Golovkin against his top opponents (Canelo and Jacobs) where did his legendary power go? The answer is, it didn't go anywhere. It's not that the guys at the top necessarily have better chins, they're just better fighters and don't get hit clean. At lower levels the guy with power often dictates pace and distance, but the more skilled fighters get those power punchers out of their element.
Thurman does have power, but after getting knocked down in the first round he was to hesitant to sit down on his punches. Same thing happened to Jessie Vargas when he tried to load up and PAC dropped him.
Pac clearly still on the roids especially after leaving vada testing or whatever. He wasn't fazed once after taking some massive punches. Pac's speed looked great but I shouldn't have expected much out of Thurman. All you gotta do is hit that body and he's done.
So Marquez hit harder than Thurman? And he put Thurman in the Barrera , morales power??? Something is amiss as Thurman landed some monstrous clean punches!
He went down Twice. Marquez dropped him in their last fight , before he dropped him a second time and turned his lights out.
Injuries probably played a part but mostly his level of opposition has raised considerably since his “KO’s for life!” days. I was surprised he wasn’t able to stop Josesito Lopez though.
