An interesting counter. Promoters are indeed about numbers, but the fight is a factor in that number, it may help/hinder potential sales. And I would agree that as part of the hardcore fancy, you do factor in the relevance and quality of fights. But as you suggest you have the PPV no matter what. You are a low number in the promoters calculation, as are all of us in the hardcore base. Hence the frustration sometimes that comes out around these events!
True but the paying customer ultimately is the quality control. If Eddie thought he could get 100k buys for Chisora vs Price I am sure he would make it a PPV Headline. If people don't pay the quality will be forced to improve.
Good call! Things are o my worth what people will pay for them. Eddie is a great salesman and he's got everyone believing his ppv are worth £20. As long as M.R & Sky are making money they will offer up as little as they can get away with in terms of quality of fighters and fights. Eddie will spin a few yarns and he gets people to pay.
The thing is though is people will come on here and talk about how the boxing fans are being fleeced and we are. However we are the last one that they are thinking of..... Think about it, the only reason that these continue is because they are profitable otherwise they wouldnt happen. its the casual fan (of which there are very few on here) that pay for these. Look at this thread and others as eg. We all seen the fight right? How many of us paid for said fight............. I know I didnt, I have not paid for a PPV since Floyd v Pac and before that was Froch/Groves. And to counter this I dont think I have missed a single PPV in the last 4/5 years. Its not the hardcore boxing fans that are causing this problem and it hurts the longevity of the sport.
If is doing a lot of work there! Going back to your "promoter numbers" point, popularity is always going to have a bigger number in the PPV formula than quality. The casual fan by definition is not going to close the gap because they, unlike us, are not prepared to do the work to understand the concept of quality in the sport.
Was a poor night of boxing...at least if it was a regular fight night, you could at least say well it looked decent on paper. But it was shocking
I Thought for a change, Hearn put a good card on. Lots of decent fights. Can't complain if the fight ends up being boring, nobody can predict that, instead should be grateful that it wasn't the Rio 16 bunch v nobodies as usual
I think when people lose their job, get divorced, fail an exam everything in life taste bad. Is everything OK BoxingABC1?
50 quid a month mate every month mind not just this one .... unless one month you dont really enjoy it .. maybe just give em 20 quid that month?
to be fair I didnt think it was a great night either... Even the main event was only interesting up til Whyte got dropped. Once that happened Whyte decided to just stick to his jab and win the fight that way, he wasnt gonna take any chances (rightly so) he showed he was a level above. Think he said as much in his post fight interview. Taking nothing away from Whyte he did what he had to his priority is himself and the viewers come 2nd. He has too much to lose to worry about making it an exciting fight. The only other fight that was gonna be hard to call was Allan/Price but that didnt turn out to the case. I knew Spilka was gonna get sparked before the fight. I had Chisora by KO, Allan by KO, Whyte to win and Pac to win on points. Big Plumber done me !! fair play to big fella though he has taken a lot of stick not only prior to the fight but also a lot of his career. I think secretly a lot of us would love do see big Pricey do well and take a proper big scalp
So according to this thread if you moan about PPV not only are you skint but failing in life I've learnt so much today
I’m great, I just didn’t enjoy it. Whyte did look good though, his fight was decent. I just didn’t enjoy the rest of the night
