i believe it makes you heavier handed and harder on ur feet. Not as easy to push back. If you incorporate it correctly it can make you dynamic.

u werent willing to risk ur back over a 140 kg dead but squatting 220? Squats use a lot of back too.

220kg was well within my comfort zone. Iv very strong legs ,spent my whole life playing field sports and my legs are just naturally huge, iv calves like pacman.
Im 6'3 and i have a very long back. Dead lifting is just a very tough lift for me. Im extra careful even when the weights arent too high.

No point in lifting crazy weights, if you slip a disc that's at least 2-3 months out of training and probably longer.
Il be training with a lot lower weights in future and focusing on running

I think that many strength coaches hired for boxers moving up have no idea the physical needs of a fighter and how they should be strengthened and where muscle needs to be gained for moving up in weight....muscle and strength types are really muscle happy...look at Anthony Joshua the muscle he has built is not that of a boxer...perhaps an MMA fighter....If I moved my fighter up in weight I would just simply not restrict his diet to the same level and for strength I would add wrestling to his conditioning

deadlifted 225 with ease when I tried it. Bench Press did 155 and it was a struggle, but put up 3 reps. I don't lift weights. I'm 5'10" 157 pounds.

Allow me to brag a little. I can do 25 strict form dead hang pullups in a row. I saw a picture of Ray Leonard jumping rope in yellow shorts and I thought to myself that guy looks like a god. I want to look like that. So I started obsessively running and doing calisthenics. Stopped drinking alcohol and eating bad food. And it got to the point where I was totally shredded about a year ago. Not quite like Leonard, but not that far off it either.

I become more lax on my diet and no longer have striations all over my body, but I prefer it that way. It's a much more enjoyable lifestyle. You can actually have a drink and eat a slice of pizza.

Looks cool, but not worth it.

im finding this really quite hard to believe, trust me im not out to cause offence but if you are 6 3 and 80 odd kilos then you are not going to have huge legs, and you are built to deadlift not squat. You are either extremely freakish or lying. Im built to squat,i have short legs and big hips and buttocks,it just seems your dimensions are all wrong. My definition of a "squat" is hips below knees,i find a lot of guys who claim a certain number aren't squatting deep enough. Anything less than a competition worthy squat is a knee bend not a squat.

long arms means a deadlift is easier and I played rugby as a kid,im from NZ. I also worked in the forestry for a number of years where leg drive is essential if you want to make fast money. Trust me, people who know me know that I was a squatter. Not gonna ask for a vid,you don't have proof so I lost care. Its funny I asked a random guy at the gym to vid me on my phone when I squatted 220,when I looked at it after an almighty grind he had videoed my feet and I was in no position to do another 1. so nevermind. Ive done 210 in front of an audience and on a livestream and it went up easy,i was kicking myself for not going heavier.

Not when you have a long back, you are putting yourself at risk. And as i said i can deifnetly deadlift more i just don't want to risk it.
Lol when i get Back into lift in heavy il have no problem making a video but iv a wrist injury currently and am changing to marathon training. So 16 weeks of that and core strengthening then back to weights

Legs are something you either have or you don't. Especially calves, seems to be a huge genetic element there.
Did you get many injuries lifting Gerry?

hardly any and I trained mostly on my own,i think you gotta be smart and program within your limits. Id smash myself in the early days of my lifting but learnt along the way to train within myself, usually it was just my cat watching. Mrs and kids were usually in bed or watching the goggle box, lifting bored them. I made friends along the way but would go "toe to toe" if I trained with anyone cos im extremely competitive which in the long run is detrimental,im introverted really and preferred to do it on my own.

What messed me up was the intensity of training, i was training 6-7 days a week , iv a full time job and was often on a calorie restricted diet.
    Not enough time to heal.
To be fair the wrist injury is my first injury in training for over a year, but a nasty one.
I got a steroid injection in it last week, seems to have solved the problem but il still need to rest it to make sure

Training within yoursrlf is important. You can still push it once in a while but not day in day out
