It's just different ways of doing you rankings. Very few, if any, fighters have been as good and dominant at their best weight as Ray was at WW. If that is your main criteria (it is for me) then he is quite likely to top your ATG list seeing how he also was a superb MW. For me he does. Pac didn't really stay at any weight long enough to give a clear picture which one was his best (it certainly wasn't WW, though), so his greatness rests more on his quality and achievements over an incredibly wide range of weight classes. Doubtful if anyone can equal him in this regard. I'd also have his beat down of Cotto and his win over Thurman as two of the greatest singular achievements ever in boxing. So depending on what criteria you emphasise I can see him almost anywhere in the top 15 (and perhaps even right outside it) really. Btw, does anyone know how many ranked (at the time he faced them) opponents he has beaten? Are we talking 30+? Feels like it should be more than anyone since Ali.
I think Crawford outboxes Pacquiao pretty easily at this point, picks him apart, and even ends up laying a slight beating on him when Pacquiao slows down. Pac would have his moments against the more robotic Spence, but I think Spence's pressure and bodypunching would wear him down sooner or later.
Greatest of all time is a huge thing. I don't even think beating Spence and Crawford would make him all time greatest. Those guys are not proven to the point where that would just automatically get that. That is a high spot and it takes so much. I think beating those guys and then moving up and stopping Canelo and GGG might make it close. That is how hard it is to make that spot. Keith is very very good, but not a game changing name to change where he was.
If he beats Crawford and Spencer likely top 10 ahead of Duran and Ali. Maybe i'm too excited about the fact he beat Thuram at 40 either way he has had an amazing career. Seriously thinking abut him over Chavez now.
Also depends on what Thuram, Spencer and Crawford do after Pac beats them under this scenario. If they all have great careers those wins only get better.
Pac is by far my favorite modern day (active) fighter. I wish that it were possible for him to avenge himself vs the **** drinker and the cherry picker.
That doesn't follow. Otherwise we could rank Norton higher than Ali. And Douglas above Tyson. I currently have neither Pac nor Floyd as GOAT, and I have Floyd slightly above Pac. But one or two more Pac performances like last Saturday night could reverse that order.
Well it comes down to what your criteria is for ranking.. Everyone's is a little different.. some people are resume, quality of competition, and when they fought there comp... some guys are more H2H … but the point I was trying to make, that Pac fighting Floyd in 2015 is WAY more significant than the Thurman fight, because he fought Floyd 4 years earlier and Floyd is an ATG .. If people are going get a excited about this Thurman win for Pac, then the Floyd fight counts so much more and there is no other way around it… Thus with Floyd's record and him beating Pac H2H .. I do not see a case for Pac being ahead of Floyd at all
Leonard, Hagler, and Hearns are also ATGs who beat Duran but no one ranks them over Duran. I honestly think Pac has a good case of being ranked ahead of Floyd IMO. Pac's win over Thurman has no impact on Floyd's resume. I don't think anyone would give Pac much credit if he were to face Floyd again and possibly beat him.
And that is exactly my point.. yes we all know the Pac Floyd fight was for 2010, not 2015. Pac was not the same fighter not even close in 2015, than 2010. so now we go 4 years later in 2019??? This fights matters significantly but the 2015 fight doesn't?? Thurman can not take care of Pac? I think what people are missing here is the that Thurman never fought Crawford or Spence, and reality is he's not really that great of a fighter .. I have no problem with Pac being rated higher than Floyd as I would probably rate him higher myself
Absolutely it does !!!! Which is my point !! If Pac's win over Thurman is significant, Then Floyd's win over Pac is MUCH more significant, thus making Floyd's resume a hell of a lot stronger
