8/31 @ the O2 Arena. WBA (3rd defense of Lomachenko), vacant WBC, and WBO (2nd defense of Lomachenko) as well as the Ring Magazine's world lightweight titles at stake. Both are southpaws. Both are 31 years old. Both are Olympic gold medalists. Campbell stands 2" higher with 5½″ more reach.
This content is protected Cool Hand looks like he's about 5" taller. It's like Pacquiao-Algieri, but all white boys.
I think Campbell’s reach with understanding of distance, coupled with not over committing on the jab will cause issues for Loma. Closing distance consistently may prove a challenge. Loma should figure it out but I think it’s a great ‘style’ fight. Loma far the superior all round fighter but Campbell very good at what he does.
I'm fairly confident we'll look back at Lomachenkos career and debate who was the better win between the legends that are Campbell and Crolla
Campbell doesn't see the 4th. Loma denudates him in a round, then thrashes him from one side of the ring to the other in the second, and KO's him unconscious in 3. And I really like Luke.
It’s funny, it’s mostly Loma detractors who try to make out he’s bigger than he actually is to minimise his achievements moving up in weight. I’ve heard people try and say he’s even taller than the listed 5’7” lol. Look at him with Campbell. Closer to 5’5”.
I need to watch more of Luke's stuff, but fwiw I am a huge Lomachenko fan and have some concerns about this fight. Loma isn't necessarily world class at taking a shot and Campbell seems to be able to bang, and can box, and has a huge height/reach advantage. I feel like it's quite a dangerous fight for Loma.
When have you seen Lomachenko react to a shot worse than Campbell when he was down against Linares, Mendy or Méndez?
You guys are crazy. The heat on this board when Loma is legitimately pushed hard by Cambell will be surreal. The overrated troll talk will go into freak mode. This is a masterclass boxing match. I really don't think that we saw the best of Cambell vs Linares, which is all the more impressive because I think Linares is a beautiful boxer (who was on a hot streak). Maybe because it was his first trip across the pond. Cambell is fighting at home now for whatever that's worth. McGuigan has really built up his body, he's a thoroughbred now. Height, length is a huge disparity. He'll box cautiously, more like Pedraza than Loma and points will be at a premium. Really looking forward to this fight.....the trolling of how Loma is "crap" after the fight will be infuriating. Haney or Tank couldn't lift 4rds off Cambell.
That's not quite what I was getting at. Lomachenko isn't so much of a big hitter as an accumulative damage kind of guy, Campbell (again, I need to watch more of his fights as he is not someone whose fights are often shown in NZ - so haven't seen too much) seems to be credited as quite a decent puncher and at face value his record backs that up. The fact that Loma takes a punch better than Campbell may or may not have so much relevance if Campbell hits harder. Realistically Loma has to be the a-side, I want him to win it but there are aspects of the fight so far which make me wonder why people seem to be treating it like a safe one - I'll find some of Campbell's fights to get a better picture but they have both had very close fights with Linares, and height and reach seem to add up against Loma.... which Campbell has more of both of than Linares did. It seems like a thing where physical attributes could add up to nullify some of the skill stuff.
I’m concerned about this fight as a Lomachenko fan. This is not going to be an easy fight, I expect an 8-4 type of decision. Campbell is tall and well schooled, a tough style for Loma.
