I thought Bellew was disappearing to become “Anthony” ?

sit in a room in his house to please some guy on a internet boxing forum.

He goes on sky once every 3 weeks to talk about boxing fs, hardly a big deal and he is good at it.

 

Clearly misses the boxing. I think he retired to please other people, not himself. I think he craves it more than ever. Listening to Jamie Moore on Tris Dixon podcast, he talked about fighters having to go through a mourning period of up to 2 years after they retire. He probably did initially mean what he said but is possibly going through what Moore said and he can tick that box through media work.

Also, it’s my understanding that he and Chisora have been friends for a long time. Along with Degale, Price etc. I do reckon he’s one of them to be overbearingly friendly to some fighters ie Joshua, though.

 

Doesn’t really bother me what he does or doesn’t do - just pointing out why people are calling him out.

 

I don't get the hate tbh. Everyone has guys they like or dislike, but for some it seems to go deeper than that.

 

I don't mind Baloo. He is passionate about the sport and does know his stuff. And he doesn't totally ooze arrogance like Froch or completely tow the SkyMismatchroom line like most others.

I wouldn't want to sit beside him though - not without titanium enhanced earplugs.

 

Those saying Bellew is a good pundit are way off the mark.

He arse crawling AJ and just Matchroom fighters or his friends in general is utterly awful to listen to.

My favourite pundit is Malignaggi. Think he talks a hell of a lot of sense, and isn’t scared to say what most are thinking.

 

Agreed. I don’t hate Bellew at all, I feel indifferent to him altogether tbh. But as a pundit where has he provided any sort of brilliant analysis like Paulie? He just always backs his mates to win. He also tore into Brook when he quit against Spence despite the fact that he couldn’t see. That coming from the man who turned his back on Adonis Stevenson and who always insists that the only thing that matters in boxing is going home safe to your family.

It’s the hypocrisy that makes him a poor pundit tbh.

 

Yeah agreed with that. I'm indifferent to him overall but I don't think he seems a particularly good guy really.. there's been a few times when he's deleted silly tweets that've come back to bite him and claimed he was 'hacked'.

I think when he really wants to he can provide some insightful analysis - when he's purely talking about gameplans and tactics. Problem is that on the big Matchroom bills he features on usually one of his favourites is fighting (Joshua, Price, Chisora etc) and he gets caught up in his silly 'best pal' act and any objective analysis goes out the window.

 

I like Paulie too, but I think you do Bellew a disservice. Yes the cheerleading aspect is hard to take, but his pre fight analysis and be decent. He does tend to give that some thought and he's a good talker when steered away from the usual cliches.

 

Fair criticism that

 

People say things then change there mind. Once offered a decent contract from sky, he changed his mind even easier.

Tony Bellew is not a good pundit. He is so far up Eddie's Hearn ass always twists and biased analysis to sort out his own needs. Likes to always be heard and seen to be supporting his 'mates' the man is a walking talking contradiction.

To continue the topic though, I think Bellew is a very poor pundit. As many have said, whilst he clearly has a good boxing brain and understands the mechanics of the sports, his inherent bias' to Matchroom fighters and his friends means his analysis is completely lobsided.

 

Really cannot stand the bloke. The king of hypocrisy. The amount of times he says one thing and then acts in the opposite way is unbelievable.

Said how much he scares himself because he will fight any man in the world, can never say no to a challenge, is completely fearless etc. when asked if he would fight Wilder he nearly had kittens and said not in a million years, said Wilder was far too big, although pretty sure Bellew weighed in heavier against Haye than Wilder didn't against Fury.

Said he hates the limelight and was changing his number and now he is at every matchroom show screaming like Eddie Hearn's rent boy.

Has a complete strong stance on PEDS and constantly says you are threatening people life's then every now and then will pop up and leap to the defence of one of his pals who has been caught. Pretty sure he came out in defence of BJS amongst others.

He isn't 'honest' like everyone says, he just talks absolute waffle nonstop.
