See that´s where I think different. I think the 30s was a better era for hws than the 80s or nowadays. I think Neusel or Uzcudun would only have to be afraid of the Klitschkos today -others would be competative, don´t get me wrng. For me the worst eras were at hw were the 20s, 80s and today´s. 30s beeing probably on par with the late 40s/50s/early 60s.
Schmeling was a better boxer than Smith ever was; no doubt there..... But while Smith often winged or looped his right hand, he still had damn killer power..... I'm still surprised that Marvis Frazier got up from Smith's right hand down the pike in their fight up in New York back in 1985 / '86...... Smith was faded in '89, but he still had some zest to dropped Ruddock in the early going in a great national TV fight....... But Ruddock got up to KO Smith in wicked fashion.... MR.BILL:rasta
Schmeling should be favorite, but Witherpoon might be a good guide to how a talent like Schmeling, would have ended up in the 80s!
With an opponent the quality of Schmeling and as long as Don King's not promoting the fight, Spoon shows up motivated and stops him late.
Tim was a lazy hwt who very rarely came into a fight in perfect shape. Schmeling was a fitness freak and a great fighter in his prime. You have to go with Schmeling. The greater and smarter fighter by far. He would counterpunch Witherspoon every round for the tko win in 11 rounds.
Bodhi ,I have tio agree with your analyzing.Picking Daniels fight as to Max ability nonse, keep the good work Bodhi.
This. Witherspoon in top form had the power and killer instinct to knockout Schmeling, but Witherspoon was extremely inconsistent. In anything other than top form Schmeling would have a field day with him and stop Witherspoon.
Best condition of each, Spoon drives Schmeling thru the canvas. He's actually a more dynamic technician with more tools and better tools. Sometimes it sucks to be from the 1930's in these sort of match-ups.
Schmeling was the far greater fighter. Really not close. Schmeling was a consistent top tier hwt and hwt champion for a decade. Tim due to laziness never achieved much of anything during his career.
