So Chavez was shot when he lost to Frankie Randall .... So Lennox was shot when he lost to Rahman ... so Foreman was shot when he lost to Jimmy Young?
What you're saying is that Roy Jones is still a world class fighter, ergo he is not shot. That doesn't make sense. When Ali lost struggled to a 15 round decision over Evangelista to defend his title, he was still world class - he was the world champion! But it was clear that he was but a shadow of his former self. His reflexes were shot. He body would simply no longer do what his mind wanted it to do. Similarly with Roy Jones, he still is an incredibly skilled fighter, but his body is shot. There is a disconnection between what the mind wants the body to do, and what the body can actually deliver. You contend that he hasn't slowed down, that his reflexes are still there, that some don't know the definition of shot. He has, they are not and we do. ** BTW, and not really anything to do with the topic, but Tarver and Jonhson are shot as well. Tarver didn't give BHOP a hard time!**
Your a tool. They were upsets, but they didn't struggle for a number of fights after. They were the same fighters after they lost. RJJ hasn't looked the same for a long time now. Seriously can you not see that he's a worse fighter now?
It think RJJ has faded greatly from his prime, I'm not prepared to say he is shot, ala Chris Byrd and Castillo just yet though. I think with his power and hand speed he could still take care of JC. I would be more confident of that though, if Roy had the fundamentals of a Hopkins or Toney.
The comparisons aren't logical. He's been knocked out, and not only knocked out but knocked out COLD. Ref was giving him a standing month count in there. He's also dropped a decision to Tarver, which is unthinkable for a prime Jones He hasn't done anything to convince anybody since then. You might think going 36 rounds with Prince somebody, Hanshaw (who got killed by Dirrel to put it into perspective) and a former welterweight coming off a lay off is impressive, but to the rest of us its a clear indication the speed is down, reflexes gone, power declined, and bad stamina.
Who wouldn't have been knocked out by the shot Tarver hit Roy with? Glen Johnson's pressure made Chad Dawson look like a shitty fighter as well and you wouldn't say he is show would you? I'm not saying Roy is prime. I'm not saying he is close to prime. I'm not saying he isn an elite fighter in today's LHW list of fighters, but he is not garbage.
Not garbage, but a complete shadow of his former self. Why would we want to see an ATG still fighting when he is barely top 10 in his division? It is sad to see him still fighting. He'll get knocked out again against an elite.
He won't get KOed against Calzaghe and that's why he's taking this fight because he knows he has a chance.
He will, I'm sure of it. Probably by accumulation, when he's completely exhausted. No way he is lasting that pace, his defence isn't even good anymore. Trinidad tagged him at will early on.
Sorry, but Calzaghe is not going to stop Jones;especially if the fight is in the U.S. Calzaghe is simply not a big puncher. Look how many times he hit Lacy and still couldn't finish him off. Unless Roy gets injured, this fight will go the distance. And you need to watch the whole Tito fight. Tito was only landing on Roy's forearms and hips after about the 4th round.
In time every fighter is a former shell of themselves ... Roy Jones Jr is still an elite fighter and still is able to obtain a world title and recieve a top 10 p4p ranking. He will show that against Calzaghe ... And i'm sorry I agree w/ Dave_TheGreat ... the punches that Jones was hit with wouldve floored and knocked out anyone. He's bounced back and is now back in title contention ... he has a top 5 ranking by the WBC and pending what happens with Diacanu v Dawson and Jones v Calzaghe ... Jones should be the WBC or WBA/Ring Magazine titlist by next year.
If Calzaghe fight Jones ... he won't have that Ring Magazine title after the fight ... Will Jones still be shot when he beats Calzaghe? ... or will Calzaghe be an overrrated guy who lost to a shot fighter?
We'll see. Lacy was a fresh fighter at the beginning of his career. I don't see Jones having the stamina to fight 12 rounds with Calzaghe, no way in hell. The ref will save his ass.
