After the Keith Thurman upset, is Manny Pacquiao a greater fighter than Muhammad Ali?

And what happens if Pac doesn’t fight a Horn rematch? I think everyone is already past that fight and I’m sure Pac would do just fine without it as well. Did Duran have nightmares over losing to a pothead like Kirkland Laing?

Pac has already sealed his legacy and doesn’t need to waste his time with a Horn rematch. Nothing wrong with him going after May or Spence/Crawford. He’s got nothing to lose at this point and fighting those guys and potentially winning them will make him even greater.

Might have been pointed out already, idk. But, it is semi important to note that, despite the thread title alluding it was an upset win for Pac, he was actually the favorite to win the fight.

As for whose greatest between Pac and Ali... I have found both sides arguments to be interesting. I can see where both are coming from.

Let’s also remember that, despite being slightly favored, there were still many people here who were so sure that Pac didn’t have that much left and would lose badly to Thurman, saying he was washed up and his wins over Broner and Matthysse wasn’t an indication of his chances against Thurman.

He doesn't need to avenge anything. He won that. And even if he didn't, there are no horrible losses when you are clearly past your prime. He was what 38-39 when he fought Horn? You can only enhance your resume at that point.

Before Ali was forced to retire in the 60's, he was on his way to becoming arguably the greatest fighter in the sport not named Robinson.

What he was able to do in the 1970's when he slowed down in every facet- from handspeed, footwork, slight decrease in power- made his accomplishments that much more impressive IMO. His boxing IQ was through the roof and that was the reason he was able to be so successful in the 1970's in a time when the HW division was arguably at its best and most talented.

Ali is in the top 5 all time for me and has a case as the greatest HW who ever lived. Only other person that can make that claim is the great Joe Louis and had ALi not been forced to retire just when he was entering his absolute prime, he'd be the clear cut greatest HW and who knows how much higher he would've been ranked P4P in the ATG list.

ATG lists are all subjective anyway but Ali was a great fighter that went through a murderer's row in the 1970's after losing over 3 years of his prime. It's astounding what he was able to accomplish. I have Manny in my Top 20 and Ali around 4 or 5. The guy in my avatar though is clearly the best fighter who ever lived- just a side note since I read some posts after the Thurman fight about Manny being the G.O.A.T. There's Ray Robinson and than there's everyone else.

He could've been the clear cut # 2 fighter all time was my point. He was basically a HW version of Ray Robinson without the power that Ray possessed.[/QUOTE]

Its not set in stone Robinson was number 1. Certainly not based off on achievements

I had him ahead of both before the Thurman fight. Thurman fight is a nice win especially at his age which has never been done. But its all a matter of opinion.

Nonsense bad loses can hurt your legacy while you're past prime look at rjj. Who would have been rated much higher had he retired after he beat Ruiz at hw or after he squeeked past tarver in their 1st fight. Instead he continued on and indeed hurt his legacy.

Why? He lost to his biggest rival pbf easily lost to a faded erik Morales never beat jmm clearly lost to a no hoper and lost to horn. That doesnt put you ahead of pbf ler alone duran. Even a win over Thurman doesnt do that.

You know the Horn fight makes zero sense from either a legacy or financial perspective. Manny is a part-time boxer and 40 years old. He just beat an undefeated WW in his prime and now he goes from that to fighting Horn?

Is Horn even fighting at 147 still? Makes no sense

Makes plenty of sense he gets a shot at redemption and a great payday. If he fights Spence he will get destroyed but will be well paid but his career will be over. Horn is a more winnable fight it's a no-brainer
