Truth be told , can we see Cooney from Holmes ft ever beating Ali ?
As it's being pointed out , Gerry didn't have the experience or knowledge to Pace him self . Ali stop s him before the 12 th.

You know, you made me think of the Ali/Lyle fight, only Gerry might have had a weaker chin than Ron.

I think you're right, even the Shavers Ali could have stopped Gerry (remember the way Ali woke up in the 15fh round and showed a flash of brilliance in the Shavers fight?)

I still don't know about Spinks Ali.

That's the only version where he could possibly lose , but then again he took Leon lightly , he'd be much more aware of Cooney s power imo

Holmes was very complimentary towards Cooney.I haven't watched the fight for a few years.

I think you're right. It would have been a big fight too, even then.

They're like best friends, do stuff together regularly.

Cooney may have had more power but Joe's left hook was much more likely to land so I'd say he has the better hook.

I don’t doubt that Cooney’s hook was more powerful than Frazier’s, if that’s what you’re asking.

Wow! Think of those monster rht hands Shavers hit Ali with hitting Cooney. Cooney would still be asleep. The reason conney got out of fighting Earnie on the Cuevas/Hearns card

To be fair to Frazier he never got a chance to land a good left hook on Foreman, since Foreman stopped him so quickly. Frazier himself mentioned that Foreman stopped him before he had a chance to land even one good punch.

They had 2 fights. And he did manage to land a big hook in the 1st fight. No one fights a guy twice and is unable land a single significant shot.

Ray Arcel was in Holmes corner that nite. He was impressed with Cooney going as far as saying he thought Gerry could comeback and beat Holmes in a rematch. One man's opinion Arcel's carries some weight.

Cooney's was harder, it's one of the hardest hooks in history despite not being overly proven against actual contenders. Frazier's hook is infinitely better. It's the best utilized hook in heavyweight history.

Wow, I never knew those two were going to fight. Gerry would have had a very bad day, alright lol! First flush right hand, bye bye.

By 1980 Cooney would have torn Shavers apart
