Once again, there are definitely grounds for this line of reasoning. To be fair, I think Moorer was undefeated at the time of the Foreman fight.

But, I can't stick up for either Moorer or Spinks. They both kinda sucked imo.

Moorer was very carefully matched prior to getting a title shot. He was kept far away from guys like Bowe, Lewis, Witherspoon, McCall who could have posed a danger to him. It's hard to know how good he was given his reluctance to face highly ranked opponents. Holyfield is probably the only top 10 guy he beat in his entire career. He was also kept far away from punchers aside from Tua who beat him easily.

Smith was no longer world class when he fought Moorer.

    Totally true.

This is the difficulty we have in eras where there were no gate keepers to climb over within the top 5. All a contender had to do to register in the top ten was beat one fringe guy just outside the top 15 like quick Tillis, or somebody like that, then stay busy against hopeless opposition until one corrupt organisation will allow their champion to meet them.

Back in the day challengers had to beat a gate keeper like Eddie Machen, Zora Foley, Rex Layne, Lou Nova or ex champions like Charles or Patterson etc.

I'd definitely not say Moorer was strong or anything. He did actually fight pretty well against Foreman before he was sent peepy byes.

Well Axel Schulz did even better against Foreman one fight later. Morrison did better one fight before.

While the topic has veered off course, into interesting back and forth discussion, some of which I agree with and some of which I disagree.

In the interest of ESB putting this topic to bed, as to whether Tyson ducked Foreman, given that both Bob Arum (Forman's promoter) and Don King (Tyson's promoter) both acknowledged that the Foreman camp did in fact turn down a $20 million dollar offer from the Tyson camp in 1991 can we conclusively say that Foreman turning down a $20 million dollar offer from Tyson and under cuts any notion that Tyson was ducking Foreman?

Why did Foremans team insist on fighting Qawi? Qawi himself believes it was to prepare for a Tyson bout:

Question: What are your standout memories from the Foreman fight?

Dwight Muhammad Qawi: “First of all, I took him on two-and-a-half weeks notice. Bob Arum was bringing George back. Getting him ready for Mike (Tyson) at the time. So I guess I was short, built like Mike, movement, when they called with $50,000, I took it.”

    http://ringobserver.com/2016/12/14/facing-greatness-dwight-qawi-recalls-boxing-george-foreman/

Apparently other writers at the time drew the same conclusion:

"Qawi, standing a hair over 5’6,” came in at a hefty 222 pounds, yet he managed to whack Foreman with a number of overhand rights to the head. This, the experts later wrote, made Foreman’s desire to get in there with current heavyweight king Mike Tyson a very, very bad idea."

This seems to be common knowledge at the time. Perhaps people are now trying to change the narrative?

I believe he chose the similarly sized left hook specialist Bert Cooper for the same reason.

Shall we close the case now?
And maybe stop valuing the correctness of issues basing on the number of repeats?

He's apparently got mixed feelings on the issue (can't blame him there). I used to be all for a Foreman over Tyson fight until I watched the former fight Qawi and have a quite noticeably hard time. Tyson hit both harder and faster than Qawi.

That said, Tyson only had one direction, same as Frazier and basically Norton (at the risk of perhaps being too broad a statement.)

Foreman hit one ***** of a lot harder than Buster and Holyfield.

Do you remember the Frazier - Foreman 2 bout? Remember Fraziers movement? If you didn´t: He´ll remind you (in some extent) to James Toney.
These guys were professionals. Nether ran into light like moth. Frazier tried to adept against Foreman, but got broken down.
What both, Frazier and Tyson always had to overcome was reach.
Both guys could use their feet if needed:

Foreman would have fought Tyson if Tyson would have gotten by Douglas........they would have stalled the Holyfield fight despite he was lined up after Douglas.......IMO they would marinate it for top $$$$$......Tyson would still take the easy stay busy fight against Stewart and then Arum/King would have put together a Monster purse and promotion for a Tyson /Foreman clash which IMO Tyson would have won rather easily due to youth and speed, no 40 year plus fighter is ever beating prime Michael Gerard Tyson same thing no old fossil aint beating Prime Foreman..........then Tyson/Holyfield would generate mega bucks........obviously Douglas/Desiree Washington and ultimately Tyson himself derailed and torpedoed this path.

Are we talking about the same foreman who said he was terrified of frazier and his knees were shaking but at the weigh in and stare downs he glared at him like frazier owed him money

The same foreman who said he was intimidated by norton's physique but when interviewed about the fight, he said it would be like a train going top speed with no breaks and that he'd run right through Norton?

The same foreman who said he'd ko tyson in 2 rounds or less is the same foreman who tweeted that tysons team didnt want the fight is the same one who made all these tweets claiming he'd want no part of him.

    Notice a pattern here?

Foreman even when he was younger seemed to be the type of guy who would say something that the press would eat up or would please the audience. If he thought being confident and bold would go over well, thats what he'd go with. If he thought it would be better to be humble and poke fun at himself or crack jokes that's exactly what he'd do.

Old Foreman couldnt have knocked Tyson out in 2 rounds neither in Mike's second. Maybe the prime Tyson would have knocked him out not soon like Holmes or Spinks but think however after the 5th round. The old Foreman probably would be gone to decision with the second Tyson like vs Holyfield and Morrison probably winning the match. Said in a nutshell the choice of Foreman to come back while Tyson was beginning to got problems was very wiiiiiise.

I’m not sure how much influence George Foreman actually has over what’s written on husband Twitter.
