How much credit do you give Antonio Margarito for his victory over Miguel Cotto?

It will always be questionable because of the Mosely controversy, but when I watch Collins vs Resto, it's not as easy to say that Margarito had loaded wraps. It will always be in limbo in my mind.

the picture in my avi w
the cracked handwrap that literally looks like a cracked brick in the post fight celebration for me is just too damning.

There is no way that happens with a legal handwrap. And when you add it to all the other circumstantial evidence (testimonials, lujans ear getting literally punched off his head, cintron saying his punches felt different in the rematch, capetillo admitting the fact that it was a hardened knuckle pad)

Only real question for me is if he was complicit and how long it had been going on

None whatsoever. I also suspected Margarito of PED use before this too. He went from run of the mill solid Mexican guy to beast late 20s without really adding technique or using experience. That’s another story though.

But, yeah he gets none from me for his “win”.

If there's even a sniff of something like this, there will forever be an asterisk next to the result in the mental record book inside my head.

I wouldn't go that far. I never got the feeling he was juicing. Plenty of guys have improved since their early 20s and peaked later.

I wouldn't call Margarito a "beast" at any point. It's NOT like he was Tyson or Foreman - the guy lost to Paul Williams, Daniel Santos, and had a VERY close fight with Joshua Clottey.

The only guys he really dismantled were Cintron and Cotto, who in hindsight were just tailor made for him.

Cotto had shown vulnerability to pressure years before Margarito got hold of him.

Neither Cotto nor Margarito stacks up favorably against any great, or very good welterweight in history.

I was confused by the impact of his punches in the Cotto fight back when it first aired, and I said so to my friends and cousins who were watching it with me. I didn't go so far as to accuse him of cheating (guess I was too naive) but when Richardson caught him wrapping up with loaded gloves in the Mosley fight half a year later, I immediately thought back to the Cotto fight, and it finally made sense.

Well nobody is going to suspect foul play because most pro boxers would never stoop so low. And the inspector should pick up on it if its attempted.
Let me just tell you that POWER is the last thing a boxer loses and it wasnt like Antonio moved up 5 weight classes.
And yes once it was exposed it all came to light- the disheveled faces, etc.
And once he was watched his power disappeared never to reappear.

rofl it was almost a carbon copy of fight 1 Cotto was starting to fade again Margarito was beating his chest. Thay dc stopped that fight to save Cotto quitting AGAIN. Only difference was Marg had only one good eye from round 2 The doc knew this but showed no sign of stopping fight till Cotto started to wilt AGAIN
what happened to Margarito at the hands of Richardson and the CSAC WAS NOTHING SHORT OF CRIMINAL

Ive got to call BS on any cheating in marg/cotto1 I was ringside for that fight as i was for a majority of his fights from 1999 on. at no time did i ever see any impropriety in the wrapping of his hands either
marg was banned from boxing for over 2 years on suspicion
of cheating another cash cow was given a retroactive TUE THREE WEEKS AFTER being caught red handed receiving n illegal excessive 750 m saline drip in his own home 24 hours before his world title fight Need i really say more

He beat Cotto 's @ss, broke him down, and broke his spirit...and that was when Cotto was on top of the world...

I was at Staples Center when Margarito got caught with bricks in his gloves, but I've never subscribed to the theory that he always used them..

Aren't gloves and wraps inspected before every fight and signed off on with a black sharpie? How did that many officials miss it for so long? Even in the mosely fight they missed it, it was Nazeem Rixhardson who found it

The last sentence you wrote is the most important one.

And here I thought Shane Mosley was a pretty good to great welterweight. How did Cotto stack up against Mosley again when they fought for the welterweight title?

Richardson didnt find anything His claim was 'plaster blocks 'fell from Marg's wraps there were no 'plaster blocks' no one else saw any. that started the whole shindig that permanently tarnished an innocent mans good name and career
