No-one could possibly know. A shorter fight would have completely changed the dynamic. Could Leonard have successfully upped the ante between round 9 and twelve and stop him when Hearns was fresher?
he might have if he turned up the heat sooner but movement seems to confuse Leonard. He doesnt adjust quickly enough. Ask Terry Norris
Oh man. Norrise kicked Leonards ass with his speed and combos.. When Leonard was out speeded he was a very hittable and ordinary fighter. Look what speedy little Camacho did wiping the ring w his ass. And Camacho way past prime and 38 pounds heavier than his best.
Hagler would have won if the fight was longer....Hearns would have won if the fight had been shorter... Why don’t we give Sugar Ray Leonard his just due ...the man was great with some great wins
Yes , Norris did Indeed kick his ass , but tbf Leonard was creaking a bit at that point . It's not exactly a prime example if the sugar man ..
Exactly right , behind on points in say the 10 th , he's blowing it , suddenly he decides , this is it Ray , I've gotta get him NOW . He gets on the attack against Tommy and Hearns suddenly buckle's , next thing , Hearns is DOWN !. Who knows ??
Looking at it the way it ended, of course Hearns would get the decision, then on the other side, you would have to wonder if Leonard would have been able to change it up sooner, knowing it's 12 or not, but based on what we have, Hearns wins. Hearns was too darn cocky, kept his left low the entire fight, I bet he wished he had that fight again, but to be honest, even if he got to do it again in a replay, he would still be cocky and lazy even knowing the outcome
