I told it in another post, this shot is not so powerful. It's not properly executed, it carries much less power than people think. A professional fighter doesnt need anything special to take that punch, not being amir khan is enough. Plus, as another commenter said, andy rolled it, what makes this punch even more useless. Rolling a punch is extremelly underrated.
He not only took it, he immediately fired back, thus preventing Joshua from landing any follow up! Amazing!
I thought it didn't land cleanly. Ruiz rolled and Joshua simply missed slightly. It "slipped" a little.
Many champions find out that you can land your Sunday punch and a guy is still standing there. Joshua caught Ruiz with a short hook that put him down and when he got up he landed a hard right hand. Joshua does throw arm punches, but those were two hard shots. The hook Ruiz never saw, and the right he probably saw and took it to counter. The right landed more on the face than the chin so where it landed is what mattered. It has nothing to do with Joshuas stance. Sometimes you can be under fire and throw a right hand and land it like you do in the gym or you can land it by just instinctually throwing it. Ruiz took the effect off of the right hand because he knew it was coming so he moved his head a bit to be able to counter. Ruiz learned that in the early days. It nothing to do with Joshua's stance being wrong. In boxing the best find a way to win when their adversary can not only take your punch but deliver their own. Joshua found that out just as Leonard did against Duran, Hearn did against Barkley, Nunn against Toney. If anything Joshua better fix his stamina. He has issues there. He was dead after he went in for the finish. Ruiz just kept chopping that tree until it eventually fell. It's ok to win a decision sometimes. AJ doesn't have to ko Ruiz to win the rematch. I went overboard but credit to Ruiz. He has the chin to stand up to single shots. Joshua has to land those shots over the course of 12 rounds if necessary and has to train that way.
Too much Al Haymon Kool-Aid. I think it's as simple as that and the same goes for a number of other PBC fighters too. PBC = no smoke crew.
His legs are “too open” and he should move his back leg to the front?? This is some I’ve the dumbest **** I’ve ever read in my life.
Dude, you cant rotate your hips with your legs this opened. A big part of a fighter's training is to teach him to keep his feet under his shoulders, so that he can always rotate his hips. Everybody and his mom know that in boxing. You can open your legs more, sacrifying power to get another advantage. But we are talking here about power. With the legs positioned like josua did, you hit like a girl. Whether you like it or not. You dont? You think it's dumb?. OK, I give 0 ****s, tbh.
I think this punch looked far stronger and bettter than it actually was. Same as some punches dont really look that powerful, but still the opponent gets KOed. Its about little things, really. Sometimes you can take it, sometimes you dont. Im probably still more amazed how Stiverne (first time) or Duhaupas stayed on their feet vs Wilder Duhaupas eated punches left and right and then gets flattened with just one punch by Povetkin. And Stiverne eated all punches first time and then the second time gets KOed VERY quickly. I think this situation is the same...even if now it looks like AJ cant really hurt Ruiz, in rematch we might see a devastating KO quickly. Who knows...
