Rematch clauses should be made illegal though, a lot of boxers probably won't sign a lot of these contracts due to rematch clauses and god knows what other clauses in the contracts, this is where boxing needs sorting

 

£100 per week from the dole office seems more accurate after that deflecting response

 

Have you got nothing better to do than spend your Monday morning trying to wind people up? You don't know any of these people, all you know is that they have a different opinion on boxing from you it seems.

If you disagree with them, that's fine - make your counter-argument. Trying to wind people up serves no purpose and adds no value to this forum.

That's true. That seems to be the bottom line unfortunately.

I don't blame him or his handlers for trying to get more money - none of us knows what the contract stipulates, but now the rematch is (presumably) generating more money than anticipated through being in Saudi Arabia; they'll probably argue that Ruiz deserves a higher purse. That's reasonable I guess; but will come down to how the contract is worded and what it explicitly states regarding purses.

 

The problem is though, this needs fixing, it's not Ruiz's fault or whoever else would've taken the offer, it needs stamping out the sport. I mean Ruiz did have a choice but he didn't really, turn down a life time pay day but accept 22 clauses

 

Two lifetime paydays. 20 x what he’s ever earned in the past. And if you win both fights you will earn 10 x that. The world is your oyster.

Or keep fighting Stiverne level opponents once a year for a few hundred grand.

In boxing you earn what your worth it’s a business aswell as a sport

 

So he did have a choice. He’s earned more money in one fight than he had in his whole career up until that point. Then he signed up to if he wins he will more than double it. That purse is more than anyone in heavyweight boxing received except for AJ. He was probably licking his lips when he signed the contract!

 

By doing that we're enabling a system where the rich and powerful are massively benefitted, the rich aka Joshua and Hearn can dictate what ever they want to the poor aka Ruiz, it's almost imitating life. Also if Ruiz wins, then he is champion for the second fight, these rematch clauses should null and void.

Every logical box fan should be against all these clauses as it just benefits the $$$ boxer going into these fights, mess up, oh that's fine rematch on all their own terms still again, it's nonsense

Also I'd imagine there will be clauses about money, venue, weight, rehydration, types of glovex, ring type, basically everything under the sun to tip it into the favour of the £££ boxer

 

AJ didn't get into that position by default.

On your planet Rocky Fielding could beat Canelo and then in a rematch start making demands. That's just not realistic.

 

If rocky Fielding does beat Canelo then he deserves to, he is the champ? What's confusing about that?

 

Where does the money come from to pay him though?

Canelo would just sack off the rematch and fight Golovkin again or someone for mega money. Fielding would be back to England for a pittance.

 

The small matter that people would be watching a rematch for Canelo. The idea that holding a belt alone should dictate the terms is ridiculous.

 

Why is whoever holding the belt dictacting terms ridculous? Holding the belt is the pinnacle of this sport or any sport, that shoud be ultimate creme de la creme

The big issue is the belt has become less important now but the belt should be what it is all about, being the best, nobody goes into the Olympics wanting a Bronze medal

The big I don't get now, is why is everyone so concerned with how much Boxers earn? Why does it matter if Fielding is getting x or x, I want to see the best vs the best, that's what sport should be all about, somewhere along the lines fans got lost and started caring more about payslips and politics

 

If everyone paid to see the champion you would have a point but they do not.

Plenty world champions out there who don't get paid like a world champion.
