I never insinuated he was a joke. For his limited Pro experience he was very Good. And if he fought in today's era some would be writing how he'd defeat Ray Robinson.
Probably not, though they could win a dec, but zI wouldn't bet my 401 k on it. In fact , I wouldn't bet the $ 500.00 dollars I have in my pocket now. The one special fighter Canelo faced made him look like an amateur, conversely that same Canelo boxed circles around the "Most dangerous puncher in Middleweight history ", and he wouldve beaten Hagler" (As some of you were swearing) Triple G . Both are good fighters of this era.... Which doesn't mean much.
I believe that Canelo and GGG both wreck Davey on the basis that there are levels to this game. Canelo schools Davey to a stoppage like Duran did for all the same reasons and GGG probably Blitzes him to a KO early because he's a far bigger puncher than Duran is.. Different Class.
Arguello was mentally done for the 2nd bout before he even stepped into the ring and being from cincinnati and working out both pryor's gy's in the city for many years and being a small part of his group at the gym's, he was on something in the 2nd fight also as he was in 90% of his fights, all Lewis did was refine what pryor was taking, it was a known fact in the gym he was always high in his fights and many times out of them, he never beat 1 single legit power guy in his career, but yet was put down 7 or 8 times, Cervantes was at the end, yet put him down, Arguello was over 30 and over his best weight which was Jlw and he was a very good LW, and really should have beat Pryor without cheating at JWW, look at the punch he threw that bent Pryor's head so far backwards it touched his back, pryor had a weak chin, that punch at the least should have put him down, instead his head pops back up like a robot and he laughs, WHY? he was so pumped up on drugs that actually were helping him he never felt it, he believed he could beat anyone, but didnt realize he was not that great, he somehow even avoided fighting Saoul mamby the other JWW champ most of the time Pryor held the other half of the title, he turned down a big offer from Leonard, they upped the money, he turned that down, and on his way up to WW, Duran wanted to add the JWW title to his resume and offered him $750,000 he never got a reply and the date on the deal to sign it, expired, so Duran moved on up to WW and we know the rest of that story, so no, Pryor was no ALl time Great, a top 10 at JWW you have to give it to him but that's it.
And to top it off, he never even unified the JWW division, not many talk about how Mamby had the other half the division title and they never fought, he turned down 2 offers from leonard and let Durans offer expire without a reply, and many point to the 2nd Arguello fight and say hey he beat him easier then, by then, Arguello knew he was not going to win, pryor and lewis had taken his heart and soul away, it was clear on his face as he entered the ring in that one, he was already beaten when he stepped into the ring, not sure why he even took that one.
What he mixed up for Pryor he was the only one that knew exactly what was in it, until everyone returned to Aaron's gym, did not take long for it to get out after that, I have the list here somewhere, but Amphetamnes was in it is all I can remember off hand, but it's not far fetched to believe Lewis cheated anytime he was in anyone's corner.
Why waste time on a such a useless comment, not lies, much of what I saw about Pryor I saw and heard 1st hand in his gyms and ringside for all but 1 pro fight!
