A young Foreman and Johnson both posted with both of their hands to block straight punches and keep a fight at long range, how did Foreman`s defense compare to Johnson`s and how would this have effected a fantasy H2H between the two greats?

They are not comparable. Johnson was a defensive genius, a boxer. Foreman was a puncher who did not emphasize defense.

But he was great at posting with his arms keeping shorter armed fighters on the outside.

    Johnson was known for:

    Boxing
    Feinting
    Blocking
    Wonderful left jab
    Impenetrable defense

    Foreman known for:

    Aggressive puncher
    Tremendous power
    Attack and destroy
    Powerful jab

    Diametrically opposite fighters

    Oh please.

I know you old time fanboys would just love for a modern giant like Foreman to share boxing traits with someone from that era, but no.

Actually there are similarities. Foreman and Johnson were much different fighters but they both liked manipulating opponents gloves. The thread is about this particular technique, not about overall similarity.

Of course Johnson was better defensively than Foreman, it's not debatable.

It`s on the vid, surely you`ve seen Johnson posting with his arms, he did it constantly.

They outstretch their arms to control their opponents gloves.

They didn't use the same defense. They just had similar facets.

Sticking the arms out is a basic Thai guard also, and was employed by Mexican maestro Miguel Canto exceptionally. These are all fighters of different styles.

Similar effective facets, Foreman simply shoved the weaker Frazier each time he got inside.
