Can you explain the reasoning? I can't see GGG above Hopkins given that they have a title run of equal length (and that's even up for debate) but Hopkins undoubtedly did it against better guys
Maybe a good way to do it to to list a who beats who list, a who fought the best completion list, and who had the most title defense list and take an average of the three?
Monzon had no inside game and a little slow, and worse, no big punch to bail him out if he falls behind on points Roy Jones is sure to outpoint him and what's Hopkins doing ranked above him?
Weightwise he was more of a Welter though. Guess it depends if George is going by division classing strictly or weight.
Doesn't really matter. I checked his résumé and I don't think that's worthy of top 20 in either division
Hopkins gets overrated because of his faulty defense total. He wasn't the champ until he defeated Trinidad, which puts his total at 6. Even if you count the alphabet stuff, a No Contest is not a successful defense. That means 19 is the mark, not 20. The proliferation of alphabet soups has warped perception and given higher status to guys who don't deserve it. None of this is to say Hopkins wasn't great, however. Another thing that strikes me as odd with some here is that some have Mickey Walker and sometimes Mike Gibbons in their top-10, a clear indication Harry Greb fought and defeated superior competition, yet he falls below Monzon or Hagler. That's discounting that Tiger Flowers is likely in their top-20, stacking the deck in Greb's favor further. If this is a head-to-head thing, I can understand, though I think it's worth being real careful about.
This week... Harry Greb Carlos Monzon Ray Robinson Marvin Hagler Mickey Walker Charley Burley Jack Dempsey NP Marcel Cerdan Mike Gibbons Stanley Ketchel Tony Zale Freddie Steele Bernard Hopkins Les Darcy Sumbu Kalambay James Toney Ken Overlin Joey Giardello Billy Papke Gene Fullmer
Marcel Cerdan was apparently a real good fighter unfortunately his reign as champion didn't last long. I read somewhere that he was thought to have the skills to be SRR.
I cannot argue with this list, maybe flip Hagler and Monzon. After looking at this I'd like to see Zale and Gennedy Golovkin , good call on B-Hop.
