Great comments above, I loved watching Quarry growing up, but Holmes wins by UD or TKO and yes he definitely cuts him up and it could be stopped today.
Quarry is a lot better than Tex Cobb, but this fight looks a lot like Holmes-Cobb to me with Larry pitching and Quarry following him around and catching ... until the faucets in his eyelids open up to give us a merciful stoppage.
That says it. Quarry was a very good fighter, but he just couldn't win against anybody great (though Shavers is arguable). He also cut easy... Larry would have him a bleeding, hulking mess in eight. RTD.
after watching Larry's performance against Shavers, I'd say Jerry's chances are next to zero. Larry was just so much more athletic
It seems like a seriously easy victory for the Larry of 1977-1983 (yeah, I certainly think the Holmes who beat Witherspoon would kick the crap out of Quarry on the latter's best day).
We saw what Ali's jab did not just imagine Holmes left hand which was better than Ali's No contest not to take anything away from JQ
Quarry was definitely a very good fighter, and not just in the Shavers match by any means. He reminds me of certain other contenders since...excellent but seriously flawed and seemingly incapable of being any kind of real threat to the greats of the time.
Quarry has a few good moments early but it ends up being a 6-8 round beat down. Holmes on cuts and/or a stoppage over Quarry due to taking too many punches.
