Credit for Kovalev for declining millions from Canelo and instead taking the risk and fighting in his hometown in Russia.Looks like that was important for him, great he take the win and now he will earn some big money with Canelo.

I can see that too, but Canelo is MUCH smaller than Sergey.

He's 5'7 and had a hard time with Jacobs size, skills and jab. Sergey is bigger and better than Jacobs.

How many times has Kovalev knocked somebody down in his career with just a jab?! Looked more like a jab than a straight left to me anyway lol Great jab man.. always has had..

For anyone to think that Kovalev isn't past his prime , then this fight should be a wake up call. A prime Kovalev would have KOed Yarde in under 5 rnds. Yarde is terrible and it took him 11 rnds for him to take out the garbage.

    Yarde had success mauling Kovalev.

    Beterbiev ends Kovalev. Violently.

I doubt they fight ever. Kovalev would make 3-4 times more fighting Canelo.

Frank Warren's awful handling and matchmaking for Yarde's career cost Yarde huge in this fight. Some live competition and a few 10/12 round fights could have made the difference today. Warren screwed Yarde's probably only golden opportunity at a world championship.

A surprisingly entertaining affair. Kovalev is clearly past his best, you could tell he was gassing after 5 rounds despite the fact he was controlling the pace and winning them.

Yarde took a hell of a lot of punches and I agree with the posters who say his behaviour and movement before the finish was worrying.

Despite being KO'd and comprehensively outpointed, Yarde's stock definitely increases after this bout. He has a chin, he certainly has heart and the right attitude. When you consider how many shots he took and how much he put into the 8th round near stoppage I think criticism of his gas tank is overstated.
One thing's for sure, Yarde has learned more from that fight than his entire professional career to date.

I admire Kovalev for his reaction from the 9th round onwards, it was that of a true champion and warrior. He also showed commendable respect to his opponent after the fight which was good to see.

He earns a well deserved payday against Canelo but given how little it took for him to be rocked and drained in this fight I can't see beyond a comfortable and body punch centric win for the Mexican druggee.

Great fight, hats off to both fighters. Yarde is still a long way from being elite level but given his lamentable experience to date he demonstrated more than enough tonight to hopefully make some posters on here embarrassed about the bile they've previously posted.

Beterbiev doesn’t have Yardes chin. He gets stopped trying to get inside.
