Was it just me or did Kovalev's gloves last night look massive? They looked so much bigger than Yardes

Didn’t notice anything but the US commentary might be an explanation...

Bradley and Ward were talking about how white gloves are a disadvantage to the fighter wearing them because the white is more noticeable than other colours such as black. And that the opponent can see the glove coming a lot easier when it is white and react better as a result. Maybe the white colour gave the impression of a larger glove during the fight.

Maybe, I just thought they looked bigger and thought they were maybe made that way to help his hands? I might just be looking too much into it though

Josh wears 8oz and Usyk wears 10oz.
It's how that weight is distributed in the glove, that gives the appearance of the make of glove been bigger than another make.
For example Josh wore winning gloves vs Frampton. Winning put more of their weight in the front of the fist, effectively padding that area more than other makes.
Cletos or everlast, have less padding in the front fist & put more weight on the palm of the hand and wrist. That's why cletos & everlast are known as punchers gloves. Winning are used by fighters who either have old hand injury a or are looking to protect their hands more.

yeah obviously they are same weight for both boxers and the way you describe it is spot on...i think its Grant gloves ? that are supposed to be what punchers like to use? but you at risk of hand injuries

Btw, Ringside have just brought out competition glove that is part horsehair.
Because it's only part horsehair and not fully, It must be allowed. I'm not sure if they are on sale yet but I have seen and felt one, they are a real punchers glove, we'll made and very little in the way of padding on the front.
The Lads that like to wear the punchers gloves will lap these up.

Won’t the gloves have to be approved by the board before they can be used in competition,I have a slight feeling that Di Marco had problems

They must have been approved. Reece Mould wore them in his English title win.
I said earlier "It must be allowed" because afaik the horse hair gloves got banned.
The " it must be allowed" , I was referencing the part horse hair.

Reyes horsehair gloves were punchers gloves until boxers realised that gloves were made to protect ur hands not smash them to bits when u hit bone on bone.

The colour of the glove could make it appear bigger. I know that a white object/graphic will look bigger on a black background, than black will on a white background for example. Quite significantly bigger as well.
