I disagree that Tunde has done a good job. I think he’s prepared Yarde woefully for his eventual title shot. He had absolutely nothing left when he was hanging over ropes at the end of the 8th when he’d just had a fantastic couple of minutes. That shows that his cardio is terrible. He can’t do 8 rounds, never mind 12. Tunde has had him doing strength training instead of cardio, clearly. Proper sparring against high quality partners would have helped him hugely, as would carefully selected opponents. He’s never ever (before Saturday) been forced to fight at a pace that he’s been uncomfortable with. He’s been allowed to work at a pedestrian pace against none punchers. He’s never had to adjust or go through any adversity. At the same time, Tunde hasn’t had to guide him through adversity either. He’s never had to give him instructions to change the course of a fight. Through Yarde, Tunde hasn’t learned anything. He disappeared on Saturday night. Shouting positive quotes is no help to Tunde & leaving him in there to take some of those shots later in the fight was selfish. He should leave Tunde. The man is arrogant and clueless. Yarde has shown that he has a lot more than I ever thought he did. I’m on the Yarde train but he needs a proper trainer.
Tbh tho a lot of that is frank warrens fault. His matchmakings been poor but in fairness franks got him a life changing pay day against kovalev. For his developments its been poor but at the end of the day boxings a business. In that regard franks done him well. Theres pretty much two sides to everything. I think their is with the criticsm of trunde as well. He surely cant be that bad with yardes performance against kovalev. Even the best trainer britain has cant get anyone to compete with kovalev. I m pretty sure no one could with the limited amatuer and pro experience of yarde to boot. Yarde tired cause he took a lot of shots more than anything imo. It will wear you down regardless of how much stamina you have. To me yarde like most fighters we,re just a bit below kovalevs league tbh. But so are most fighters. Yardes not getting away with most of the stuff he can do cause kovalevs not letting him. But kovalevs not letting many away with it tbh. Hes been a great fighter over the years whos really learned his craft. Its a big ask to completely blame trunde for the defeat. I,d say the level of competition played a much bigger part. Then yardes lack of solid real experience in comparison to kov,s. We,re all looking at the flaws but it very nearly worked on saturday night....he had kov going in the eighth round. Trunde and yarde very almost pulled off a terrific win. If that was the case trunde would be lauded today. Like everything tho if you dont win the knifes come out and the level of critism goes through the roof. If someone was to say yarde with no real amatuer or pro experience trained by an incompetent guy....could take kovalev ten competetive rounds and nearly knock him out in the 8th. I m saying to that maybe the guy isnt all that incompetent afterall. How else was yarde able to compete.
The way Tunde has been behaving there were few people who were going to let him off the hook. What he has been doing is nothing short of a God complex. He even stated that when he applied for his license he put "Tunde Ajayi, the future greatest trainer who ever lived". The way he has behaved is manic. At various times I was sat thinking surely this is a joke? He's not serious? I do think there's something a bit lacking in him to need the adulation like this.
The man is arrogant and deluded. Kovalev got sloppy in 8th & got caught by a shot. It can happen. Perspective is needed though. Before and after that 2 minutes he completely bossed it. I’m not bashing Yarde here, but Tunde is getting it both barrels. Let’s be honest here. Yarde wasn’t ready for a world title shot. Trying to win a British title & a proper European belt followed by a few Chilemba types would have been an ideal preparation. There’s a chance that he may have lost on the way and never got a title shot...it might pan out that he’s only domestic level so Frank Warren has arguably done his job well in regards to getting his fighter a mega payday. That’s what promoters should do but the cynical side of me thinks that Tunde also protected his investment from any challenge, told everyone how he had better skills than Ward etc and waited to cash out against Kovalev. That’s not what a coach should do.
