Please explain? How does he rank at a lower tier when Calzaghe's greatest wins were a against a long toothed Eubanks a 43 year old career middle weight and a shell of a former physical phenomenon who’s effectiveness as a fighter was mainly based on his athleticism. I take nothing away from Calz he did his job and so did Andre both should be considered ATG.
Longer though, more established as the man at 175 kov was than Ward at 168, Adonis had that monster left, but the general feel was Kov was the master at 175
No. However, he is an all time great nut sack puncher and head butter. There needs to be an award for those achievements.
Dino, I honestly never read this post before mentioning something similar on a later page. Kudos to you for pointing out the implicitly illegal defensive tactic employed by Kovalev’s crouching first.
imagine him fighting Hopkins ?? Be like two nanny goats ramming each other and pulling faces at the ref every 5 seconds, trying to out con the ref
Another factor to note is the height of Kovalevs trunks. He used have a habit of pushing them down they were so high. Weeks saw they were high and said shots to the belt line were legal. Jack Reiss said the same about Furys trunks and i recall Wilder jabbing Fury to the belt line while receiving no criticism for it. If this was Ward people would say the knockout came only because of a low blow that preceded it. That win was celebrated in the rbr. And rightfully so , it was a great knockout and shot on the belt line was a legal body shot. This content is protected
Kool I appreciate the insight and additional evidence. I’m not completely sure, however I was told Duva and company attempted to overturn the stoppage and they were denied any reconsideration. Seems right....I’ll even argue they had a better case in appealing the first match up results.
@Pakkuman I have to commend you for starting this thread. Aside from those afflicted with one of the many forms of confirmation biased, you’ve started a good informative thread.
Thank you. I really take pride in being one of the best posters on this site. I post without bias or agenda.
I don't see how Ward is great. The resume/career is not deep or long at all. He lacks longevity and the wins are not like a Sugar Ray Leonard, who did not have longevity, but he did have great wins..
Lmao! I wouldn’t be true to myself if I said that’s how I feel about you. Lol but hey I don’t want to knock you off your little horse.
I answered no but that was a rushed answer. He can be considered an ATG at super middle, I am not convinced at LHW as he fought a blown up Paul Smith and some Brand guy before Kovalev. The win over Sullivan Berrera was good but he lost the first Kovalev fight for me and employed d*ck punching in the second. One thing I never saw Ward in with was a slick fighter such as Dirrell, Degale(for a short time), Bute to name a few. Chad Dawson doesn't count because he made the stupid decision of going down a weight and Ward happily made him do that. I would think Roy Jones as a better SMW than Ward even though he was only in that division for a couple of years. The James Toney win is greater than Ward's Super six final win over Froch and better than the "W"'s over Kovalev.
I think people unfairly try to diminish Wards resume because he didn't fight outside of USA but the fact is the bigger money fights are generally and were in Wards case in america
