Would the first clash between Ward and Kov have had fairer judging if they had fought in Russia?

For sure. Just look at the officials for Kovalev vs Yarde

    Ref from a neutral country
All three judges from a neutral country

    Kovalev vs Ward I

    Ref from the USA
All three judges from the USA

Kov obviously got robbed in that one, robbed of his undefeated record, all three of his world titles that he'd had to work so hard and make enormous sacrifices to get his hands on, future earning potential, and a big part of his legacy. So when it came time for the rematch Team Kov quite understandably wanted a fairer shake and put in a request for neutral judges and we all know what happened there.

Kovalev vs Andre ''No To Neutral Judges'' Ward II

    Ref from the US
All three judges from the US

Listen to what Steve Bunce OBE has to say here about how both he and Yarde were treated by the locals (aka ''Evil Russians'') over in Chelyabinsk, a rough and rather dangerous place by all accounts, or at least parts of it are. Kovalev actually comes from ''the hood.'' Bunce said he had a great time over there and the locals were very polite, friendly, welcoming and respectful to both him and Yarde and co. They put on a great show as well. That light display was rather spectacular.

    at the 26:26 mark

The production on the night was really impressive
Left me thinking about how poor british shows are in that area unless maybe AJ is fighting
Even then its average pyro and a crap rapper

That was the travesty imo, taking those belts off him and giving them to a guy who had no intention of knocking the champion out.Ward after being dropped did what he always does, stinking the joint out and screwing over the paying public.
That's the reason he never got any love from his own country like Mayweather did, entirely down to his dour style of wrestling and dirty tricks.
Broke my heart when Kovalev said he thought he could put on a boxing show and get credit from the judges.

If it was held in Russia Ward would have been disqualified for low blows, and Kovalev would have won every round against Ward in their first fight.

No he wouldn't have. Imo Kov would've won 120-106 on every card even though the fight was close.

Russia has nothing to do with selecting the judges LOL!!! they are selected by the sanctioning body... none of the judges were Russian for Kov vs. Yarde

Kovalev would've won both fights in Russia.

Yes but if Saturday's fight was in the UK there's a high likelyhood that Yarde would've won. Home town advantage is an advantage.

How was it not a fair decision? The people that thought Ward won saw it fair and I think a good amount of the people that saw it for Kovalev thought it was fair although they didn't agree because it was a close fight. I personally had Kovalev winning the fight with the knockdown being the difference. I don't see it as the right call but I dont see it as a clear robbery which is thrown around by fans every time their fighter loses a close fight. The point is moot anyway because Ward dismantled him in the rematch anyway. The low blow garbage is just a terrible excuse. Ward beat him.

IDK, it's a pointless hypothetical. It does annoy me though when people try to bash places like Germany or Russia for being crooked when USA/UK has just as many if not more robberies.

Agree 100%. Even the Mexicans in Ward's home state booed him.
