Nah, basically it is how you can sell the fight.

Casual fans in the UK have no idea who Kelly Pavlik is, people do know who Roy Jones is they also know who Tito is so Roy beating Tito will be spun as Roy Jones is back to the public which is a much easier fight to sell than the Pavlik fight to non boxing fans.

but for ****sakes most casual fans have forgotten Roy Jones.....**** even my mom said "He's washed up by now, Calzaghe must be a ***** for not fighting Pavlik." I could'nt really argue with her

Sad thing is osh We'll never know how well the fight would do...but I could almost gaurantee you that it would do better than a fight with Jones......unless Joe gets in a Dolorean and takes us back to 98:deal

and Bob Arum has been around long enough to know how to sell a fight

I think Calzaghe would beat both of them.

But you are right the Pavlik fight is much more dangerous and would be a much harder nights work in my opinion.

The average person still know's more about Jones than they do Pavlik. Pavlik has only been in the spotlight for 3 fights and didn't even sell out his last fight.

Anyway semantics really, Calzaghe should be fighting Pavlik i think.

Basically beacuse there was no clamour for the fight. The only fighter that Calzaghe mabye should have fought was Glen Johnson.

    Hopkins pulled out.
    Jones didn't want it.

The rest are just nothing special.

Not so sure I agree with you here osh......at least judging as an american Pavlik is catching on fast and with great numbers of casual boxing fans, and for good reason.......a Pavlik fight is never dull or boring

Indeed a Pavlik fight is and most probably will never be dull.

Let the Abraham fight happen, then the winner can fight Kessler after he wins a few more belts at SMW in a super fight.

The fact that the Calzaghe fight is not happening for Pavlik is disapointing for me.

    It's disappointing for me too

and just how is Kessler a prize for the MW king?

A Kessler victory is a few grades BELOW stomping the former MW king Jermain Taylor twice:deal
