Doesn't Povetkin have to be ranked higher than the likes of Wilder, Fury, Ruiz etc?

Look at Povetkin's resume. He has defeated top contenders through his long career. But he got only one title shot in last 6 years.

I don't understand why Tyson Fury is ranked in top 3 in the world. I don't really understand. The only achievement he has is the victory against Klitschko 4 years ago, from whom he ran away and ducked twice for rematch. Apart from him, he fought nobodies. Only a draw against Wilder.

I can say similar things about Wilder, Parker, Ruiz, etc..

Povetkin is a more complete boxer than those above. He is successful, strong and consistent.

The top boys dont want to fight him, never have, hes aging, hes slowing, hes at the end of his career but people ducked him hard over the years cuz hes a serious threat and top quality fighter.

Povetkin a very good fighter for a very long time. Until the AJ fight their is no way someone like Wilder should of been rated above him. Wilder a guy who fought 30 plus nobodies to be awarded a title shot and swerved all threats over a guy that has wins on his ledger like Chris Byrd, Eddie Chambers, Ruslan Chagaev, Larry Donald, Carlos Takam, etc.
thankfully most serious publications didn’t outside of espn which is a joke lot of the time

What you have said here shows the power of an 0 to so many people.

A loss seems to massively drop the standing of a boxer whereas an 0 seems to hold them in such a a higher regard even if fighter A (an undefeated fighter) hasn't faced anyone as good as fighter B (fighter with a loss) has faced when they suffered a loss.

Wilder is held very highly because of his 0.
I don't think he would be held as highly if the Fury fight had of been scored as a loss.
The fight could be no different but the 0 makes a massive difference

That's not a slur on Wilder but he hasn't had some of the fights that a fighter like AJ has had

I agree. Wilder should have a loss and then if he did, I may still rate Povetkin higher because his resume is a much stronger caliber. However he’s coming off a ko defeat and Wilder escaped with a draw so for he first time I place him above Povetkin. However i’m Among the few to have waited so long to do so, many places Wilder above Povetkin before the Joshua bout I never did.

He’s never won a world title.

2 title shots. Clearly lost both.

    Fury 2 title match’s - 1 win 1 draw

    Wilder - I think 8 wins 1 draw?

Ruiz- 2 - debate loss, one clear win which was a massive shock

Povetkin sat on that wba regular too long and blew it by drugging. That’s why I don’t rate him above the others

Well said. I didn't know that beating Furys little cousin could warp the minds of some into thinking that Povetkin was this super champion.

Povetkin's résumé is quite honestly top 3 in the division, with a case for number 1.
    But.
He's old now, and lost decisively both times he took on an elite HW.
Ruiz, Fury and Wilder are all rated as high as they are because they're champions of some sort (regardless of what you think of the ABCs and Lineal).

I've followed Povetkin since his amateur days and support him but you make a fair point ... except with Wilder. Wilder's never fought anyone as solid as Povetkin's failed two title shots. I don't see him beating prime Wlad or likely that version of Joshua either. He only just got past Ortiz and he was also fortunate against a much less than 100% Fury. The version of Wlad that Povetkin took on would be a very tough ask for Fury, Ruiz, Wilder or Joshua.

OK, think about this: you are a top heavy weight champion, and you have unified the divison, you have the 4 belts, over 50+ victories, most of them knockouts and you have defeated the top 10 heavyweights so far. Then all of a sudden, someone like Otto Wallin or Tom Schwarz knocks you out. Then everybody starts saying "Oh, Otto Wallin is a better fighter than him". Does it sound fair?

Povetkin said he want to fight Tyson Fury next, because all was Fury doing is talk big. Povetkin also said that he always wanted to face Tyson Fury.
He also said that he was wanted to do better things in the fight with Hughie Fury, but the big pause off the ring reflect to his performance.

Yeah I reckon he lost to fury (admittedly I have fury bias) and there was something fishy in the Ortiz fight but he got the job done.
