think he's saying they're **** numbers, and that's why Hearn makes PPV fights that cater to the "casuals"
I'm not surprised Lomachenko is not the sort of fighter who captures the imagination of the masses, and campbell wasnt a legitimate threat to him let's get real.
Hearn was aiming for highest 300k He will have still turned a profit and kept a hardcore fan base that he needs to cater to every now and then satisfied No harm done to him or MR
Pretty decent numbers. As others have said Loma is levels ahead of Campbell and personally didnt think the fight was as close as press hav made it out. Not as if he would be paying loma millions upon millions
Only 300,000 buys ? Those are very good numbers, not only has Luke Campbell financially secured his future but he has also raised his profile in the process. He will have netted £1 million plus for the fight and that buys a lot of rental properties in Hull.
Obviously we know many hundreds of thousands streamed it, but still, although 300,000 twenty pounds is ok for their pockets, that’s a really rubbish viewing figure for such a great sport with an all time great on show. They’ve really succeeded in making boxing a niche sport.
Thats what happens when you exclude millions of potential viewers by putting up a pay wall PPV has been fantastic for the boxers And im all for that, its a hard graft and its good to see scenarios where boxers live a good life after they hang the gloves up But consider this If promoter's all stood firm and said thats the pay take it or leave it (im assuming they are offering a fair wedge here) Then what do boxers do? Continue to decline all offers and go do something else? I doubt it And we as fans would get more fights we want to see as negotiations would be a touch easier Anyway we are well past that stage so who am i kidding
That would need collusion though...and then competition law would come into effect I suspect and CMA probably have more dough than UKAD. There is a big change coming for legal funding though. I work for an NDPB and the government are going to be underwriting the costs of losing cases soon. Has a huge impact on budgets, most of our spend is legal and if we win a case we can end up with millions in underspend at the end of the year. Imagine UKAD wrestle with the same issues so hopefully should have more muscle next year. Ironically the heavyweight division will lose muscle...
