James Toney was built by Bill Miller to be a throwback fighter...how do you think he would do in this era?

Toney was every inch a talent, cagey fighter. I think he would have fit in fine, though when you double and triple the amount of fights, some of our modern fighters 'might' well have fallen by the way, others 'might' have stayed in with the killers. it is never clear and easy to deduce 100%, though Toney was definately a great fighter.

Wins some, loses some. The constant schedule helps Toney and he’s obviously very skilled and durable.

He is in the proper mold but didn't like to fight 3 minutes a round. Maybe if times were different he would have fought different. But as it was, he wouldn't have survived. Christ, he wouldn't even do roadwork at a certain point.

That is a good point. He would of had stay busy to survive. No Burger King drive through either. Toney would of had to probably work an 8 hour job during the day the way Charley Burley did. Maybe that keeps him for becoming a lazy chubby cruiser/heavy. Its hard to say which direction it may take him.
One thing is certain. He wouldn't have been showing those guys anything new that they hadnt seen before. Just another tough boxer.

Taking fights on short notice, not being the house fighter. It's a tough go.
Charley Burley worked all day, got a call and hopped on a bus to LA and gave Archie Moore a boxing lesson. Put him on the canvas to boot.

I agree with this. However if he was in that time line, he'd either retire sooner or adopt to being in better shape to compete.

The less then active counter puncher types are in general going to lose out to the active punchers who had skill . While Toney had some power, he can't fight 2 minutes a round and expect to win enough of them vs well conditioned fighters of class.
