Why was Floyd not able to win gold in the oympics, is this because he became a great 12 round fighter and tended to struggle in his first 3 rounds that he used as a scouting report? Or was it because amateur boxing is fought at a much faster pace than the pro`s?
No Roy was cheated at the olympics and won a silver beating his opponent easily in reality whereas Floyd couldn`t even get to the final and didn`t look that great as an amateur compared to someone like Loma who was probably the greatest amateur of all-time.
According to almost everyone mayweather was cheated at the olympics and if you follow his record he was the number 1 fighter in his weight class ...he was a fine amature fighter he just didnt have as much experience as loma ..
My memory of it (and I'm going back 23 years to recall this) was that he was considered the standout boxer in the tournament up to the point he got eliminated. I think he got a bad decision and that's why he never made the final. Anyway, that's only what I recall so could be wrong about the decision.

It was a loss that Mayweather’s future teammate Zahir Raheem said ate away at him. “He was angry and he was hurt,” Raheem said. “He cried. He told me, ‘Forget it. I’m quitting. He defeated Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Tileganov in the opening round of the featherweight division’s Olympics tournament then beat Armenian Artur Gevorgyan in the second round. Mayweather’s next fight, against Cuban Lorenzo Aragon, was his biggest test yet. Aragon was bigger and boasted a longer reach, and an American had not defeated a Cuban in the Olympics since Leo Randolph beat Ramon Duvalon in 1976. If Mayweather beat Aragon, Mayweather had to change his regular style and become the aggressor. And that’s exactly what he did. Mayweather’s change of pace led to a 12-11 victory that left a formidable impression on his veteran coach. “There was no question in my mind after that that he was going to win the gold,” Mitchell said. The gold medal seemed to be one step closer near the close of the Todorov fight. Mayweather landed more hits on the Bulgarian and worked him round after round. After the scores were tabulated, Egyptian referee Hamad Hafaz Shouman raised Mayweather’s hand as the announcer delivered the results. The final tally was 10-9. Todorov had prevailed. “They robbed him,” Raheem said. “Everybody knew Mayweather won. The referee knew. He probably then read the score and realized he made a mistake like Steve Harvey did with Miss America.” Mitchell protested the decision to no avail. Mayweather took home the bronze medal. Todorov later lost to Somluck Kamsing of Thailand in the gold-medal fight.
I honestly think it's debatable whether he would've won it. Somrak Khamsing, who won gold, was a hell of a fighter, a natural fighter, with alot of experience and similar talents. That shouldve been the final.
Floyd`s a lot better now and was a slow starter, 3 rounds weren`t enough for him to get and scouting report and start winning, how many great pros have lost early rounds in their pro careers?
what makes you think money is a slow starter and has lost the early rounds in his pro career bout? What pro fights are you thinking of that he has lost all the early rounds and was behind on the cards?
The thing with Floyd is that he is not busy enough,In general he would not do well against other ATGs
I've never been a rah-rah USA type of guy. Quite often I get annoyed with the American boxing writers slanted everything for the home country fighter. It could be Bowe/Lewis or Chavez/Taylor etc. When it comes to amateur boxing though the American boxer often gets the shaft. I hate to go there but they do. I it happen to our neighborhood hero Jimmy Clark in his 1st 3rd fights with Stevenson. Roy Jones, nobody can even argue that one. Holyfield etc. So it doesn't surprise me.
he scouts for the first three rounds a lot of great fighters do, Judah won the early rounds v Floyd and so did Conor, I was being vague but he is certainly a king of adaption and that is hard to do in a three round bout, Hatton also had success early on v Floyd. He cdertainly didn`t win the first three rounds in every pro fight he`s fought.
