Monzon by consistent, determined beatdown, ending in a stoppage.

That is the correct answer.

 

I think hearns has to get monzon out of there early. The longer the fight continues the more I fancy monzon to shatter the glass.

Did Monzon ever fight someone taller and with a longer reach than him? I can't think of anyone. It'd be interesting to see how he dealt with that.

 

It is a tough fight for Hearns and Monzon, but more for Hearns because of the weight. Hearns can win if he decides to fight smart and stick with his jab and use his speed, which could offset much of what Monzon wanted to do. Lectoure had good fighters in his time.

 

This poses some difficulties for Monzon,Hearns is taller and has considerable more handspeed.Tough to say how he would have dealt with it.

Hearn s wins the first 4 or 5 rounds, then Carlos breaks his way in . Monzon would look the stronger man in there and his shots would look the more damaging. You would see the gradual break down from Monzon, over the hit man. His jab will become less effective and he'd look shaken when he's connected with a hard shot. By the 8 th round its all to apperant that Tommy needs a miracle, his hardest shots have no or little effect on his opponent and his legs are shaking from the effects of the damage.
Tommy is finally put out of his misery a round later, when Carlos drops him. Hearns bravely attempts to rise but his legs have gone. The ref counts over him as Carlos s corner are already celebrating.

Not sure how some confidently pick Hearns when his chin and stamina were extremely suspect. Monzon by stoppage or kayo, around the 5-7 Rd. mark....

 

Monzon is the greater Middleweight but the styles here don't mesh in his favor. Hearns is gonna have the quicker jab, faster right. Its not like he can't hurt Carlos. He would let Monzon know early he was the boss on the outside. Tommy won't wear down because the pace will be his.
Hearns by borderline ownage.

 

If Hearns durability and stamina was a lot closer to Monzon's i'd ride this pony as well.

I can see where you are coming from - a Benitez/Hill type blueprint. Monzon is more of a competitor than those two imo and he's not afraid to get in there and have a go if need be. He's got a fine chin and leather skin to help his cause there. I think he'd throw more caution to the wind if he had too.

I think Hearns would give him hell early. As a matter of fact imo his best chance might actually be to stop Monzon as i don't think he'd see out 15 himself. He would have to hurt him deeply as Briscoe did and finish him off. This would be a very tough task but Hearns is Hearns after all and it isn't completely impossible to say the least. He was throwing some downright nasty bombs at Hagler. Hearns having the reach, height and speed on him would see Monzon have a torrid time early as most Hearns opponents did when he was at his best. I can see him dominating the early going but i fear he'd get caught at some point thereafter and struggle. Monzon actually had a good repertoire of punches and wasn't afraid to work the body either. I think the safer money would be on a Monzon stoppage after having some trouble early. Good to see an opposing point of view tho.

I think it's often useful to say what you think the overall outcome would be over a series of fights between two boxers.

That's what I'm going to do here.

If Monzon and Hearns fought 10 times at 160lbs, I reckon Monzon would win 10 of them.
