Fact that it is being sold as an extremely dangerous fight (and it is a brave move by Canelo don't get me wrong), when in fact this is 66.6% appearances (Kov looked very slow recently, can be hurt to the body, not the same one shot KO power) and just 33.3% risk (he's still big and can punch) underlines the same point I made pre-Pac/DLH where I picked the younger, fresher juggernaut by stoppage: this is PERFECT timing vs. a HoF going out, a fight to make even the general boxing forumers say 'whaaaaaaa is he crazy?' forgetting the real challenge in his real division and the same punishing outcome.

First of all: because Nelo is that good - he really has grown into a P4P monster, and 2ndly: he's easily walking about a cruiserweight and will have no problems handling Kov's size, boxing circles around him with much faster hands, picking off his shots and pummeling his body into submission or unnecessarily punishing decision. The common theme is: this fight is more about perception than a real challenge, and I guess that's my problem with it, ppl. just grabbing divisional titles handpicking opponents that suit them. Otherwise, hey: if nothing else, it's an opportunity to prove me wrong.

    Nelo retires Kovalev

More like De La Hoya vs. Hopkins.

This is a very poorly thought out thread. Pac was moving up and Oscar was coming back down from Junior Middleweight & Middleweight. Perfect recipe for disaster for Oscar. Canelo isn't meeting Kovalev at Middleweight or Super Middleweight.

If there are no bs weight stipulations than I think its a bad comparison and Canelo does deserve credit if he beats Kovalev. Yes Kovalev is not in his prime anymore but he is still very good and is the natural light heavyweight. Canelo is more of a super middleweight.

The scales sucked the life force from Hoya and Pac forged a career at WW since he was a good size for the weight.

Kovalev isn't fighting any battle with the scales and Canelo won't be staying at 175 cos he is horribly under sized for the weight.

    There's no comparison whatsoever.

And Pac had just moved up from SFW (!) to LW upon announcing the DLH fight at WW, so once again: comparison works. Ppl. never brought up Oscar being drained in the lead-up (that's hindsight), they brought up that Pac is "horribly undersized" and gonna get stopped and never return to 147. I stand firm in my minority standpoint (not ethnically speaking, although...).

Canelo is nowhere near pacman in his prime, and kovalav isnt a walking punching bag like oscar was against pacman.

Don't get sucked in in to the "monster" tag as his results just don't suggest this albeit he's a great figher.
