People on this forum have been contemplating if Haye will make the Transition North to Heavyweight as well as Holyfield.

I think he will and here is why.

    1. Holyfield moved up from the OLD cruiser limit of 190, Haye is moving up from a limit of 200. That is a big difference/ less disparity for Haye.

    2. Holyfield had to weigh in a few hours before a fight in the OLD days, so he was naturally a 190lber. Haye must have weighed at least 210lbs on the night of the Macranelli Mormeck fight.

    3. Haye has an amazing amount of self confidence/arrogance. As a Puncher I beleive that is an extremely important ingredient, it enables him to "put it on the line" so to speak, ala Naseem Hamed.

    4. Holyfield moved into a relatively weak heavyweight division just like Haye. There was Bowe for Holyfield there is a similar big task for Haye in Wlad.

    5. Haye is 6"3 and an excellent size for a heavy with broad shoulders, expect him to put some healthy poundage on between now and his next fight.

    6. Golden boy.....this is the smartest move from Haye, they will guid him to at least one version of the heavy title.

    7. Can he he beat Wlad.....if he lands a Bomb yes....but I back Wlad to beat him putting another stinking negative Jab and hold display.

    7. Most of the punches that Ibragimov took in that snoozefest would put Haye down and out... Wlad by KO!

Some of the points are taken, but the HW division was pretty solid in the early 90s. He first moved up in 1988, but the division improved later on. You had Mike Tyson there from 1988 to 1991, and then when he got out of prison. You had young prospects like Lennox Lewis, Ray Mercer, and Riddick Bowe who turned pro in 1988. Razor Ruddock wasn't the smartest of fighters (that's an understatement), but he was a hard-hitting heavyweight with some physical gifts.

Also, I'm not too sure about the weigh-in procedures for Holyfield back then.

I think the WBC wanted to change the rules after Mancini-Kim in 1982. I'm not too sure exactly when it became common practice all around for guys to weigh-in about 30 hours before the fight.

Holyfield had a chin though. Haye's is still a bit shaky.

I think he'll excel at heavyweight though, I don't think he's ready for Wlad yet though.

I think if Wlad wins it will be by knockout, Haye will jump on him looking for the knockout and that is when Haye could get caught. I think it will be an exciting fight whilst it lasts

A few key differences are, as already stated, Holyfield has an ATG chin. Holyfield's workrate is much higher than Haye's. Holyfield was a far superior technical boxer to Haye. And nobody ever had more heart than Holyfield.

Everything he wrote is correct but I agree, Wladimir KO's Haye fairly early if Haye is aggressive early, later in the fight if Haye tries to survive and "out stamina" Klitschko.

When Holyfield moved up, the CW limit was smaller......so were the HW's. The whole reason the CW limit was moved up to 200 is because the size of the average HW has increased. So to me, that isn't a factor. And I think overall, the HW division is worse now than in the late 80's early 90's.

Also true. Holyfield's chin was never really in question at Cruiser, unlike Haye.

yeah that's the biggest difference. Holyfield had a granite chin. Haye has been kd and badly hurt by former super mws, Mock and Thompson not to mention other cruisers

Yea agree with most points, but in a nutshell Haye will do well at HW because he is a good boxer, lots of amature experience, he isn't a 112 boxer he comes with anges and has fought good competition in CW prior.

Touch wood he will spicen the division up.
