Jeffries as champion against this selection of 60 s heavyweights? 15 rounds. Henry Cooper Ernie Terrell Zora Folley George Chuvalo Karl mildenberger Cleveland Williams Archie Moore In that order could he make it a clean sweep?
I think he certainly has the physical attributes to potentially take all of them, but if forced to suddenly fight under 1965 rules I think at least three would would beat him. Give him six months to spar and adjust and I bet -or at least have strong hunch- he sweeps the lot. Make them fight under 1900 rules and I'm almost sure he does.
If it was 50s Archie I’d give him a better chance but 60s is basically useless lol. I think with some adjustments he could out point most of them. I don’t think he scores many KOs in this shorter round era unless he changes his style. Definition of attrition puncher. I mean we are really going by newspaper stories here as the one fight on video proves he has a good chin but he was way out of it by then. Zorra and Ernie would be the toughest fights.
I chucked in Very ancient Archie as a very easy soft touch for his last defense! Tbh I don't see him making it unbeaten through that far, I can see Folley for Def out pointing him.
Ehh... I think he’d definitely need time to adapt to the rules, Jeffries was a really slow starter because he counted on his durability and cardio to carry him through 20 plus rounds, he’d need to come out harder and not take as much punishment. Him and chuvalo would be very interesting, probably the two most durable heavyweights ever
He would need time to adjust and with that time I can see him beating all of them, most without many problems.
Over what distance, wearing which gloves ,and which style of refereeing? Too many intangibles to be sorted.
Jeffries probably beats them all. A proven ATG hwt champion vs contenders who never attained that level of success.
This. Archie in the early to mid 50’s has a good chance of beating Jeffries, but by the 60’s Archie was completely done as a top fighter and just a guy to give young guys rounds.
Terrell and Folley completely outbox Jeff, Chuvalo outmauls him - not that I think either is tougher than the other - but Chuvalo had incorporated a jab into his arsenal. I think Williams would really batter him and stop him under 1960s rules, but I think Jeff could take the rest.
Would be interesting to see how Jeffries' "class" and "greatness" serve him against more skilled big men. I suspect it wouldn't go very well for him.
