I’m no Joshua or Fury fanboy and both have their shortcomings as fighters but I’m curious as to why Wilder as WBC champion for 5 years nearly hasn’t tried to to collect anymore belts? What are the reasons for this?
Yes but he quotes one face one name etc but hasn’t seemed to do anything to achieve this and wondered if there were any reasons?
And therein lies the answer.Never have we seen a Heavyweight champion to so long without facing any mandatory opponent's.The WBC sure looked after Wilder and Stevenson at Light heavyweight,to win any other titles would mean stepping outside the comfort of the WBC. By the way same goes for Fury.Whatever folk think of Joshua,you couldn't have a go at him for not being ambitious.same can be said about Parker and Whyte.
Perplexed me as well as all they ever spoke about was unrealistic amounts of money,never once did making history get mentioned.I was upset to see Joshua lose but at the same time I was happy for Ruiz who had the balls to go out and rip those titles away from him.Either Wilder didn't fancy it or both Joshua and Wilder had secretly agreed to fight at a later date,thus showing no respect for their other opponents.
We all know that was bull,now AJ lost it might happen after Fury Wilder & could be either boxer IE winner.
I think Wilder is planning to just build up his record and fight for the titles in his last fight before retirement. That's long been my view anyway, without any substantial evidence. More than likely waiting for the right opponent, might think he has it in Ruiz Jr.
Some terms and conditions would of been nice. Especially when Hearn and Joshua asked for them. But Shirley said NO NO NO. Shirley said "1st you accept the offer and then we will tell you what the offer is". Thats not how it works Shirley.
With the Malik Scott fight in the back of my mind ... I can't help thinking that he's not inclined to take fights against fighters who won't gift him an opening. Mostly likely wrong on this ... but there's something of a 'professional wrestling' vibe I get with Wilder.
Missing out on the AJ fight when there was 100 million USD on the table between June 2018 and June 2019. Will go down as the biggest error in Wilders entire career. That money for that fight will never EVER be on the table again. There is unlikely to be another fight out there for either Wilder or AJ in the rest of their careers which matches to it either. Outside of Ortiz and Fury, Wilders level of opposition is very poor.
His last mandatory defence was 4 months ago against Breazeale. Im pretty sure some champions have been without mandatory defence longer than 4 months
