Ok i know hes probably most known for getting stopped by Gotti in his last fight. I thought he got robbed against Spaddy. His other fights were pretty exciting especially winning the belt and defending in the rematch. Any thoughs on him?
Good tough fighter that was fun to watch. Romania produced a few good fighter's in the 2000's. Dorin, Bute and Diaconu were all crowd pleasing fighters.
He was robbed big time against that scumbag Spaddy. Dorin won that fight 8-4. From what I remember, Dorin was already kind of checked out from the sport when he fought Gatti. But no excuses, Gatti caught him with a good body shot. Dorin was a good fighter. Far from elite, but solid.
He was a lot of fun to watch. He could fight like hell, and he had a very prolific amateur career. Maybe that long career in the unpaid ranks explains why his pro career wound down relatively quickly. As Xplosive said, he was winding down even prior to that Gatti fight. I also seem to remember he had some dire weight cuts which culminated in his famous meltdown on the eve of his defense against Miguel Callist. He came in several pounds overweight, dropping his title and taking a lengthy layoff before a tuneup fight and then the bout with Gatti.
I saw him fight on television a couple times and I am embarrassed to admit that, until just now, I thought his name was Leonard.
