How could 5”9 Frazier possibly compete with a modern specimen. It would be a complete mismatch. Peter by TKO before round 1 Frazier passed out in fear of his modernness
Frazier beats Peter like he owes him money. It would be slightly more competitive than a heavy bag workout. That big round gut would remind Frazier of the medicine ball drills he did with Yank Durham. Peter would try to bully him with his own hooks and lean on Frazier but that would just open him up for hooks upstairs. By round 6, Peter's stomach would have purple welts and bruises. You'd think he was beaten up by a gang for his pocket change. In this matchup Peter's size and slow feet would be a liability. His lack of defense and sloppy technique means he gets countered and outworked all night. A right cross and a rabbit punch combo drops Frazier in the 11th but that's about the only success peter has. Frazier would get off the floor pissed and shut Peter's right eye with a double hook. By the 12th all peter can do is cover up or flail away to avoid getting stopped. Frazier lopsided UD.
I agree 100%. We all saw an old overweight James Toney make Peter look foolish at times slipping under Peter's punches. The only difference is Joe was a much better puncher than Toney ever was at Heavyweight and he would make Peter pay big time.
Smokin Joe before The Fight Of The Century would crowd Peter from the the start, bobbing and weaving, landing his left hook to the body. Peter would land effective punches at times, even stagger Frazier. Smokin Joe would end it by round 7.
Prime Frazier was a real fighter. Peter was a complete nothing. A low skilled lumbering hwt. Height MEANS NOTHING when you know how to fight small. Joe beats him up and knocks him out within 9 rounds. A completely one sided fight.
Peter has edges in height and weight. Frazier has big edges in talent, workrate, speed, heart , skills, determination and likely power (Peter hit solid but Frazier stopped better opposition at the world level) This would be a complete beat down. Peter wouldn't be able to maintain the pace and his slow, winged, clubbing shots would be no deterrent at all. Frazier TKO 12.
Frazier inside of 6. Joe simply beats the crap out of him. Norton gives him more competition in sparring sessions.
Peter is bigger, tougher and hits much harder. I'll still fancy Frazier because he had the skills and the timing. And the resume to back it up.
Actually in my opinion it would be a total mismatch for Frazier . A big (Fat?) fighter with slow feet, slow hands, and not close to being defensively sound, not very tall, and usually sucking wind after 5-6 rds. field day for Frazier
