Isn't it a bit naive to expect past era fighters to be competitive against modern fighters...?

How many of those 400 were on Duran's level?

This is fatally flawed because how many 5'11" heavyweights do we have? Hence no need to bob and weave!

Viruet referee: Arthur Mercante 7-2 | Artie Aidala 6-4 | Tony Castellano 7-3
I'm not suggesting the fights were particularly close I'm saying Duran had problems with movers and he did, Bizzarro went into the last minute of the 14th round.

AJ...no. even pre-FOTC Frazier would knock him out easier than Ruiz did imo.

But Wilder. against anything but FOTC Frazier..quite possible. Deontay would have to turn that near-Foreman level right up the middle instead of overhand.

Actually boxing is one of the best sports to compare a past era fighters as there are weight classes.

Russell 24-0-0
Walters 26-1-1
Rigondeaux17-0-0
Linares 44-3-0
Pedraza 25-1-0
Crolla 34-6-3

You definitely can't knock the level of fighter Loma has faced in so few fights. Nearly all titleists and relevant contenders. It's a shame that there aren't any other excellent/near great/great fighters around his weight class; he's only really going to lose if he goes too high in weight or his body starts breaking down with age and/or injury. A lot of heralded fighters in recent years have faced less impressive comp in considerably more fights.

Duran is about as far from average as a fighter can get.

Lol of course it is native to think some fighter from the 1900's could compete against any modern skilled fighter. It is beyond naive. But these old guys on the classic forum need something to believe in. They still need to believe guys like Gene Tunney a guy who could be considered a light heavyweight by modern stands could beat Lennox Lewis. He just had to right? Then these people will start giving you this routine. Since Lennox Lewis lost to Hasim Rahman and Oliver McCall then it must mean Rocky Marciano could do it. Too silly to realize Rahman and McCall were 230 pound heavyweights and Marciano was 185 pounds. Too silly to realize there are weight classes for a reason. Even with the skill alone Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Jack Johnson couldn't compete with any modern skilled fighter.

These old senile guys will also give you this. Well Gene Tunney is in the Hall of Fame and lets say Michael Grant isn't so Tunney could beat Michael Grant. Too silly to realize that Tunney is in the hall of fame for what he did back in the 1910's to 1920's. That doesn't equate to him being able to be any modern skilled guy. Never mind somebody who is a natural modern sized heavyweight while Tunney spent the vast majority of his career weighing in the 170's.

But who cares, let these old senile clueless guys live in their little fantasy world. In the real world nobody cares about them. They need to live here on boxing sites to feel important. They still need to believe what took place years ago is relevant to what is happening now.
