I'll go with McCallum prime vs prime. McCallum was much more well rounded, had more tools in his bag.
I would go with Bernard by decision. He was natural at the weight and Mike at middleweight was good but not great. Not in my mind.
Peak Hopkins too big and too good. It's a great middleweight vs a great junior middle. McCallum is a hard nights work for anyone but Hopkins has the skills to offset his countering and never let him stay in a rhythm for long. Hopkins is extremely well rounded and can fight at any range. He'd bum rush, he'd get rugged in close, he give lots of angles and ranges. He also hit quite hard at his 160 best where as McCallum lacked a bit of power at 160. Hopkins UD.
It would feature the "Body Snatcher" vs the "Alien". Both fighters were terrific body punchers, but Hopkins was the natural heavier of the two, as shown in the Trinidad fight. Tito was moving up from 147 and 154, he could not hurt B-Hop. This fight would be similar, Hopkins by close but unanimous decision over Mc Callum.
I love McCallum and he’s one of my favourite fighters but I think Hopkins find a way to neutralise his man and get the job done
I slightly lean to Hopkins by a close decsision. I have a feeling it wouldn't be fun to watch towards the end, after McCallum has an early lead.
I think Mike had the better jab and was better on the inside. On the outside he is busier.Close fight but let’s be honest Hopkins never beat a fighter of Mike’s caliber at 160
At his best Hopkins was flogging/schooling his opponents even if they weren't Mikes standard. I think Hopkins would have the better of the inside for sure and he dealt with jabs with aplomb.. Hopkins has a lot of height and reach as well. Mike is a level below at Middleweight for mine, absolutely. Hagler, Hopkins, Jones, Monzon, they all would have got past Mike imo. He's a half level below at least.
How can you say Hopkins is a level above Mike when he never even fought someone of Mike’s caliber? To me this is utter nonsense. To me Mike was a little more skilled. While you might disagree, he was certainly in Hopkins league.
