He is already IBF top 15 - or at least was before challenging Fury, so I'd really love to see him take on the winner of the upcoming Tom Schwarz vs. Ilja Mencezev II for their international belt. He'd smash his predecessor on the Fury Euro-bum carousel, and Mencezev, both rather easily, I think. Probably a good niche for him.
Yeah. Have you seen Mencezev/Schwarz? Fun little HW brawl. Looking forward to the rematch. Otto vs. Hammer, Washington, Molina or Breazeale makes sense too.
Let me get this straight.. Wallin did well to get close to Fury but only because Fury looked flat footed. Wallin threw the same punches as Schwarz and landed them because Fury looked absolutely terrible. I don't think Wallin is a top-25 fighter at all. His level is around the level of Eric Molina I can say. He carries no power at all. Im almost 100% certain guys like Chisora spark him out easily.
Would be interesting to trawl back through post histories to see how many people backing Wallin to beat Hughie ridiculed him when his fight with Tyson was announced.
Interesting how? Pretty dumb comment. People can't alter their opinion? An unheralded fighter can't prove they were better than anyone thought when given the chance to step up & shine? (if not then seriously wtf is even the point of this sport??) What do you think is meant by the phrase "eye opening performance"?
Otto massacres Hughie, probably slices and dices him as well. With all of the puss from the erupting boils and gallons of blood he'll be drenched in, by the end of the night Hughie will look like the cover of Metallica's Load come to life.
Not really. It would be interesting because it would demonstrate how fickle some people are on this forum by writing fighters off for no reason - because the majority who wrote Wallin off as a no-hoper almost certainly would have never seen him fight before. You need to relax, I said nothing to suggest that people can't change their opinions. My post is aimed at those who called Wallin a "bum" and said that the Tyson Fury fight was a complete joke when it was announced.
I think believing Wallin to be a bum and cherry-pick on Fury's part before they fought - yes, based on watching footage of several of his fights (or having seen & scored them on RBR basis live) and not just glancing at BoxRec - was a perfectly reasonable stance, as is now thinking "okay, a little from column A (he was better than advertised) but also just as much from column B (his overachieving performance happened to come on a night Fury was complacent and unprepared for somebody to put up stiffer resistance than Schwarz did) contributed to it being such a close fight...and based on it, provided he matches that level, Otto beats Hughie.."
I think Hughie beats Wallin personally but I'm sure we'll never find out because I can't see that fight happening unless Peter pushes for Hearn to make it for Hughie's next fight.
