Lol Marciano could compete with 180 pound guys who were mob controlled or past their prime. That is like saying because Floyd Mayweather could compete against 130 to 150 pound guys so that means he could compete at cruiserweight. Marciano never fought a modern sized modern skilled heavyweight in his life. He couldn't compete with even the worse modern heavyweights because he wasn't a heavyweight by modern standards. How hard is that to understand? There are weight classes for a reason and Marciano isn't above them.

A jab isn't beating Marciano? Yet 180 pound Roland LaStarza beat Marciano and got robbed and the 160 to 170 pound Ted Lowry beat Marciano around the ring and toyed with him. But yeah the 6'3 210 to 215 pound Larry Holmes could beat him.

You Rocky Marciano fans should be flat out banned from this forum. Your stupidity is unreal. You might didn't realize this but there are weight classes in boxing right? You know Rocky Marciano wasn't a heavyweight right? You do know by modern standards Rocky Marciano would be either small cruiserweight or a slightly heavier light heavyweight right? You know Larry Holmes actually was a modern sized and modern skilled heavyweight right who took punches form the 6'5 230 pound modern sized heavyweight Gerry Cooney right? You know Marciano on the other hand was knock down by blown up super middleweights like 40 plus year old Archie Moore and 40 year old 190 pound Jersey Joe Walcott right?

For the point of this lets say Marciano was the hardest punching 180 pound fighter of all time (Clearly he wasn't in reality). Being a hard puncher for a lighter weight class doesn't equate to being a hard enough puncher to knock out a man much bigger than you. That is like saying since Julian Jackson was the hardest punching 154 pounder of all time that mean he could of knocked out Wladimir Klitschko.

Grow up kid and stop it with this Marciano bull crap. Marciano wasn't a heavyweight by modern standards so stop acting like Marciano could beat one. Larry Holmes would beat the tar out of Rocky Marciano.

Yeah that was honestly laughable. I
Yeah that post (or at least that part) was honestly laughable. Surprisingly very terrible coming from an otherwise great poster. I love Holmes (he's my 5th favorite!) but him having any of those advantages over Rocky is rediculous imo.

Good points but Rocky's face didn't swell as much as cut.

You’re that irrational knuckle head who knows nothing about boxing and hates Italian people. Not worth having a conversation with. Hopefully you get booted again for the constant name changing

I agree that Louis's best weight was south of 207lbs, but he wasn't exactly carrying excess fat at 213.

He still had 213 to lean on Marciano with, and push back.

That is why I don't discount this number entirely.

Carnera was a manufactured tub of hype, and fixed fights ,Wlad is a top15 all time heavyweight.
    Holms defended against;
    Cooney 225.5 6' 6"
    Cobb 234.25 6'3"
    Smith 227. 6'4"
    Bey233,25. 6'3"
    Jones 254.5 6'5"
As an old man he fought and beat.
    Mercer 228.75. 6' 1"
    Lakusta 223
    Ribalta 237.6'5"
    Lane 255
    Ferguson 242.5 6'2"
    Weaver 234
    Smith 275 6'4"
    Martin 234

    For some of his defences Wlad was;
    Ibragimov 235
    Byrd 238
    McCline 241
    Sanders 242
    Povetkin 241.75
    Botha 241
    Jennings 241.5
And his last fight against Joshua 240.25

Your response tells me that you obviously dont know what "functional" weight is. Any idiot can simply gain weight and lean on an opponent.

There's a reason foreman was so much stronger than frazier even though they were only a few lbs apart in weight!

Louis was a has been going through the motions and still made rocky's eye swell with his jab and lasted 8 rounds. He might eventually get past holmes' jab but at what cost? Holmes knew how tie up, had a better jab than an old Louis, faster feet, better chin, timing, , etc.

Omg an ATG gave someone a swollen eye in a boxing fight? The other guy must have sucked? Seriously? Did anyone actually watch the fight? Marciano dominated it

I respect your opinion. You're wrong about the guys he beat not being in the top 10 (though I'd be happy to be corrected).

I think both the jab and the uppercut would be the deciding factors against Marciano.

I think a lot of folks here are talking about the prime 1980 Holmes, which is usually who I refer to. But let's take into account the just-before-prime Larry who totally made Shavers look lame.

Rocky was a WAY better fighter than Shavers, but I really don't see a fight against Holmes going too much differently.

Larry looked like a freaking boxing miracle in that Shavers I fight. He was perfect imo. That Holmes would have even given 60s Ali definite troubles (though Ali would have made the decision imo).

Why is a win over Carnera worth nothing because he's 20lbs less than Lewis, who has nothing to do with this. He weighed equal to Holmes and had bigger dimensions

He also prime and didn't move up from light heavyweight

He never attempted to push Marciano back.
