Would Davison be the first trainer to give the same advice to 2 fighters? What happens if that advice was right for both fighters at the time? Should he not say it to the second fighter in case Freddie Roach will criticise him? Nobody saying he is perfect, or the best trainer around, but I think he should take a good deal of credit for the way he has brought Fury back into the fold. Fury needed more than a trainer. He needed a coach, and a friend. The biggest criticism I could give is him not instructing Vaseline of Fury's forehead against Wilder!
completely agree, i was just saying that this was roaches criticsim. Question i would ask, what has Davidson actually added to Fury's game, apart from being a friendly face and getting him fighting fit (no mean feat), what has he changed in Fury's game, if we use the Wlad fight as a measuring stick, you could argue that Tyson has actually regressed since being with Peter i like Ben Davidson and he seems astute when talking boxing and seems like a nice guy, not saying he is a bad trainer but i just don't see what he's added to tysons game outside of the above.
I agree in many ways Twenty. Though I think Fury is too light and his trainer should get him too put weight on, to the late 18st mark. I also think the constant training though good for his mental health left him drained physically. They should reduce physical training between camps, give his body a rest. Maybe go to chill at places that will let him rest and relax whilst helping with his mental health.
I think Davies is more valuable out of the ring keeping Fury off the cocaine and out of the kitchen. As for his value ringside, I think seeing Top Rank send a reporter to tell him the cut was caused by a punch proves he's out of his depth. Only then did Fury change his style up and start using his size and aggression to bully Wallin.
Guys done wonders for fury. What is it 4 fights and four wins so far. I m counting the wilder robbery as a win in that tbf. From where fury was....ben davidsons been a bit of a saviour for fury. Its a bit like wallin...just because no ones heard of him doesnt mean he cant be decent. Ben gets the same treatment. We could look at the corner advise from roach numerous times over and put question marks to him. The scrutiny of up and comers from people is a bit much. Maybe ben isnt the best in the world. But so far hes done wonders for fury. Got him back active. No one believed that would happen. Beat wilder in the Usa. Again no one believed that would happen either people thought wilder would end his career. Wait a minute he didnt knock wallin out in two rounds...bens a failure. Needs to get rid pronto. Agree with moog. I think fury was a bit drained. Was looking too gaunt round the face in the lead up. Camps been a bit too long. But you dont know thats what would be the case till you try it. Think its a mistake most coaches make in the heavyweight division because its a division in its own. They assume lower weight/body fat equals better performance. When its often not the case. Reason why a lot of heavyweights carry a lot of spare timber. Now they know tho...fury looks like hes better a bit heavier. You dont find out these things till you try it tho.
Not sure what your referring to. But maybe ben has to do it to try to shut up all the naysayers. Looks like hes slightly went overboard with trying to prove himself. Hard to blame him too much bearing in mind everyone keeps writing him off. Even after the wilder fight few actually gave him much credit. What they achieved was massive considering where they came from. Fury basically having to walk instead of jog. Or struggling to punch pads without being shattered. From that to beating wilder in america. Ben deserves massive credit for being part of that. We cant just wait for a mediocre performance before we stick the boot in. The reality is under peter tyson didnt want to fight again. Under ben hes 4 and 0. People say hes hopeless as a cornerman. Bit as a motivator and a fitness guy hes doing something right with fury so far anyway. The guy deserves massive praise for his part. Roach just being roach eyeing up fury for himself. Should never be going public like he did regarding ben.
He did a good job of keeping fury calm between rounds. He didn’t let the cut panic him. He strikes me as the kind of guy that is good in a crisis, he focuses on the job at hand. Still early days though.
I think Ben Davidson spends too much time making sure every hair follicle on his head is perfectly placed and not enough time studying the sport. This isnt the first time one of his fighters has had a mare against a vastly inferior opponent, but Davidson has a smug arrogance about him which is unearned.
I pasted a vid on this thread with youtube trainer Barry Robinson showing Davies heard his instructions to a fighter in sparring and then the vid shows Davies repeating the exact same wording to Saunders in his last fight.
Roach, as good as he is with some fighters, seem's to be so two-faced. He is a real snide with a bad word for everybody. Davies has worked miracles with Tyson.
In a few interviews Ben has said that there are a couple of issues that need addressing with Tyson. From the gist of it these are issues that were there before the fight and have been for some time. He hasn't gone into it other than he keeps repeating "a couple of issues". Any ideas?
Is that a bad thing? If its accurate advice - then is it ok to for BD to use something he's learned? Just playing devils advocate here
