He fought very differently in different fights. In some fights he more rushed in aggressively, other times he was much more defensive, of course he was fighting a scheduled 20 or 25 rounds in his big fights, and often upped the pace later, so a slower pace makes sense. He was trying to win those fights, not help us visualise him beating a totally different opponent, who fought under totally different conditions, 100 years later.
Jeffries would show that bum what it was like to be in there with a real Professional Fighter and bust him up, just imagine Jeffries in there in his Prime instead of a paid off Wallin holding his Left back after he cut Fury, Jim would have seen the cut and destroyed him.
And he was almost stopped vs. a guy box rec ranked 46th in the world who really wasn't much of a puncher either. I have not seen the fight yet, but I hear the Swedish guy gassed badly; otherwise, he would have beaten Fury. Fury was badly cut and in trouble in the 12th. Fury = Stock way down. Just like there were a dozen treads on Joshua vs. until he was starched by Ruiz jr, its best to wait a few years before comparing a fraud like PED busted boxer who's been cherry-picking opponents since his come back.
I don't think Fury got exposed in the Wallin fight. I think it was actually impressive that he sustained his lead with that terrible cut. He adjusted his style and started crowding and bobbing and weaving on the inside. I think it showcased his boxing instinct and mental fortitude. Jeffries had that stalking crouch that would work well stylistically against a rangey bigger fighter. He had the strength, size, stamina and athleticism to impose himself on the elusive giant Fury. Fury is the better boxer, and has a great reach and height advantage. With his elusiveness he would outpunch Jeffries from range all night. Jeffries would own the inside, using his boxing IQ and athleticism to work his way in, and land some hard punches. I don't see Jeffries winning on points. I think he would have to stop Fury on cuts or a KO. It's a tough call.
Gaining and losing so much weight and being out so long would've weakened him a lot. Jeffries and Johnson did way more wrestling than Fury does. Jeffries trained with a champion wrestler. Tom Sharkey also wrestled I think for the championship of America, and held his own.
Fury also did that. I've trained in MMA and Jiujitsu, I'm a better grappler than boxer. Just watching Fury's clinch work, which is generally excellent to stifle the inside game, is going to be good enough considering the size and speed differences. Jeffries was a tough *******, but I think this is a case of levels.
If it had been Wallin cut instead of Fury I think the fight would have been stopped. Fury was never in trouble of being floored and won clearly. As to premature assessment of fighters, I remember you lauding Kovalev as an ATG! Perhaps you have learned from that?lol
Kovalev beat Ward in the first fight. Even you said so. Fury fights old men or non top ten guys outside of Wilder. Kovalev fights better competition. If he beats Canelo and the judges Kovalev is going to the hall of fame. Also don’t exaggerate. I never said he was a top 10 ATG. I said he had a chance to make the hall of fame and still does. PS: don’t think you were an active poster as Tonto when I said that! Come out of the closet Mcvey.
I think Fury has looked massively worse since his layoff too, his stamina and inside work included. Curious what you make of Jack Johnson overall.
Decent post . One carp you thinkJeffries had the size to impose himself on Fury?Six feet tall around 215lbs?
