As a fan of both fighters I'm kinda torn on this fight i kinda want Alvarez to win to shut up some critics but part of me thinks Kovalev is a bridge too far, but an aspect of the fight that I didn't realize yet, if Canelo does manage to pull off a win vs Kovalev he would be WBA MW Champ, WBA SMW Title holder, and WBO LHW Champ at the same time... Now I'm sure something like this has happened before but a 3-weight current champ in this era is unprecedented. even if it's just a one oft fight how would you rate this achievement and rate Alvarez if he would be able to hold titles in 3 divisions concurrently.
    for context purposes
    160 beating GGG for WBA & WBC Championship(Current #2MW & still P4P rated)
168 beating Fielding for WBA Title(Fringe top 10ish SMW contender)
175 beating Kovalev for WBO Championship(#2 LHW perennial P4Per before the Ward fight and most decorated champ at 75) possibly holding 2 Championships and 1 Title.

Based on quality of opponents I'd say it would be an outstanding achievement and maybe the greatest of this generation.... Thoughts?

iF & its a big IF Canelo fights Kov at 175 with no BS rehydration limit In a 100 % fair fight with honest officials with the better man winning the fight & he beats him. I'll call him CHAMP!! BUT Theres as much chance of that as there is if The Tooth Fairy& The Sugar Plum Fairy being Ring Card Girls LOL

Well so for word is it's at full 175 but in a historical sense how would you rate that accomplishment in this generation.

If he beats him it should be considered a great accomplishment in his era. But to say this would be greater than a 160lb Byrd, Jones who won at HW, isn't comparable. To turn pro at Middle, then win the HW title is a greater feat IMO.
Great by today's standards. Not historical though.

You dont think Canelo holding titles at 160,68,&75 ay the same time isn't comparable to Jones going from 54-HW in a career, at this point I would rate Jones greater all time, but in this current generation holding titles in 3 divisions at the same time, is super impressive and has to be rated up there in a historical sense. Fighters making a leap through classes is nothing new but being a 3 weight champ at the same time is something I haven't heard of that I can remember?

If he holds & defends all 3? Yes, that would be.

But if he wins LHW title, without defending the other two, than that wouldn't be what Hank Armstrong did, he won & defended in 3 classes.

This fight should be at 175 lbs since Canelo is fighting the Light heavyweight champion. That is the way it used to be, it is wrong to protect an opponent and handicap another for monetary gains. This great sport should be for prestige by seeing who is the better man in the ring. Let us see if Canelo can win another belt fair and square to determine his legacy like so many others before him. If it is a fair match, it should be very good match to watch. Let's leave the catch weight out of this, either you have what it takes or you don't.

Kovalev could become a cherry pick gone wrong but I doubt it. However, he is a cherry pick for Canelo based on his stamina and very suspect chin. He won't get off the hook if Canelo rocks him. Canelo has all the tools to beat him. He is a ferocious body puncher, an excellent fighter and has an iron chin. Kovalev is in trouble and I look for the stoppage.

I doubt Canelo will treat this fight as a cherry pick. There is no way he would be dumb enough to underestimate Kovalev.
Ward had to go through hell to get those wins. Alvarez got schooled in the rematch, and had to walk through fire to win the first fight. Yarde had success in hurting Kovalev, but he also got flattened in the end.

Alvarez has the skills and ability, but he lacks the size. And he himself has stamina issues. Alvarez won't be able to go ham on Kovalev, or he will end up like Yarde.

Seems like it's going to be at 175, likely with a 10lb re-hydration clause(same what the IBF mandates).

If you count that trinket he bought at 168 as a genuine title then it's so little wonder that the governing bodies treat boxing fans with such disrespect.

Despite that I will be betting on Kova, I will be rooting for Canelo to win. Would make waves in boxing and help build his resume, and use that momentum for future superfights. Whereas if Kova wins, he just beat a very good smaller fighter, and he will go on to get beaten by the top of the division. Canelo winning would be a semi special event, to a certain degree.

Personally I make a distinct different between a title holder and a champ, Canelo is Champ at 160 he's just a title holder at 68. Which is why in the first post I stated 2 championship and 1 title.

It's hard to cheery pick a guy 2 divisions up, every one brings up kivalev being 4-3 but 2 of those losses were to Ward another perennial P4Per and the first fight was close and the opponent that wasnt Ward he avenged his defeat so all that about record is over inflated imo.

Yup, pure trinketry. But if they set the bar so low at 168 and targetted Fielding, GBP and Canelo must have seen enough slip in Kovalev to match up against him in a weight class higher...
